64 Vette….Rebuild 2.0

What years were the split windows? I saw a very original looking split window at my local grocery store the other day. Kind of reminded me of yours however it was white and appeared stock.

Every year vette is easily distinguishable

63 is split window, and inserts in the hood with the top and bottom coves like Zims.

64 is no split window, same hood as 63 but no inserts, same coves.

65 has the 3 vertical coves and the bulge hood with the small inserts on the sides, only year 396

66 is the same as 65 but 427 and is the only year for the 450hp option IIRC

67 has the 4 vertical coves, the infamous stinger hood.

The 65/66 can be hard to pick apart if they arent big block cars.

True, convertible 63-64's tough to distinquish too.

63-64 fenders are the same, 2 horizontal coves (like my car) 63 coupes have the split rear window, 64 coupes have the B pillar vents with a functional drivers side exhaust fan inside the rear compartment to help cool the interior. 63 hoods have the inlayed grilles in them, 64 had the inlays but no grilles in them.

65-66 fenders are the same, 3 vertical openings. 65 coupes had the same B pillar vents as the 64, but they were not functional
65-67 small block hoods were all the same with a gradual rise in the center smoothly flowing to the cowl.
65-66 BB hoods have a bulge above the air cleaner and grilles inset on either side of the bulge

67 fenders are unique to that year with 5 verticle openings.

Really nice looking vette! & Thank God that you left the front bumperttes off of that car! It gives the car such a clean look up front:waytogo:

Yeah Rene'....it's the latest in hack edition engine dress up!
I like the old M/T covers but thought the Chevy orange clashes with the Torch Red paint.....always bugged me a bit, so when I saw these classic Edelbrock finned covers I had to have em!
Had to get extra thick Corklam/steelcore gaskets to clear the rocker stud nuts and had to massage them a bit on the flange where it hit the intake runners but I really think they look better than the orange covers. Also didn't want the huge breathers so I found these Airaid breathers that will also serve as an oil fill port.

That was one of the coolest ad campaigns they did for the Woodward dream cruise. Imagine that photo on a 40-foot billboard on Woodward Ave and 14 mile. They sold posters of those that I picked up while I was out there. They look killer framed up.

Time for a new battery, which means draining the cooling system to move the surge tank and hoses that are right above the battery.
Good timing I guess as the Wieand Team G aluminum water pump was seeping out the seal hole. I was hoping to get a GM casting rebuild but seems everyone has gone to new castings instead of rebuilds. 36$ for a new China pump (like the Weiand unit) but will be looking into rebuilding the aluminum unit in the future.
Also had a bit of a trans gasket leak so a new lubelocker went on, the speedo will have to wait until another time.
One of the valve cover gaskets had a bit of a seepage to it which eventually made it to the headers, so some new gaskets when on there too.
Decided to change the engine oil as well. That is the 6 qt. SHP pan that came on the solid lifter engines for 63-65. I run NAPA full synthetic 10-30 with a bottle of zinc added each oil change, and a Napa spin on gold filter, replacing the old canister type from the era.
MAW change all the fluids so the rear diff was drained ( I had the casting tapped for a drain plug when it was built a few years ago) and some new Lucas 75-90 added. Hopefully will get it off the lift in the next couple days, then it’s time to tear the TH400 out of the Maiden for a buildup.
