64 Vette….Rebuild 2.0

Yeah, diff looks good. You rarely see a regularly used diff with oil so clean. But for some reason, the LSD was stolen?

Diff guy says everything looks good. Need to check axleshaft endplay .005-.008 is perfect. Ill see what I got later.
He also says more hp/tq and hard sticky launches will kill that 8.2 diff and/or the axles in short time….oof well I’ve been lucky so far with what I got and street tires, as it all looks good from here!

Axle end play is .004-.006, beautiful!
Diff guy says for what its been through already its holding up great, but expect things to change with hard hooks and more power. So it has a guesstimate of 50-60 1/4 passes, 2500?? Miles, at least 100 full throttle 1-2 blasts on the street, burnouts, donuts, etc.
He suggested changing the pinion seal (a slight seepage showing). The posi trac additive available now will cause the rtv he put on the pinion splines and the seal to the housing 15 years ago to leak. It has a solid spacer, not a crush sleeve, so changing it and torquing it to obtain a new spec he provided with the procedure he uses.

In other news, spent all day in ER with mom. Shes doing good now, even bought us some chicken and biscuits for dinner on the way home!
Headed to Arkansas in the morning. Surprising the family down there for a week, and checking out the other Vette!

I used to draw a yellow gease pencil down the axles on my hot rod chev ii. When it wrapped all the way around i swapped in some junk yard ones. Way back when you could find them in the junk yards.

Going to be on hold for a while due to shoulder surgery on Monday.
Cleaned and organized things a bit in the barn until I can get through shoulder rehab.
Replacing the pinion seal, got to get a new nut before I can finish that, then the diff is ready to go.
Got the new crossmember bushings, but no rubber cushions w them. Not sure I need them anyway with the solid plate mounts I use?
My fuel line is only 5/16” and has worked well so far, and its buried between the body and frame. Ive considered lifting the body to put in a bigger fuel line, making better seat belt mounts, and perhaps a roll bar. Not sure I want to open that can of worms though.

Thanks guys!
Dr. said the rotator cuff is a complete tear, including bicep tenodesis, and subacromial decompression, whatever all of that means….no wonder its been hurting so long. Probably should have done this earlier in life. Been fighting a cold late this week after being ordered to stop taking zinc and some other immune boosters I regularity take. Hopefully it won’t be an issue with surgery.
Been getting as much done to prep for post op home comfort. Ever try pulling the recliner lever with the left hand?
I put a 2’ long piece of PVC on the handle so I can reach it with my left hand. I have an end table on the right side of my recliner with all kinds of “needs” on it. Had to move all that to the left side. Ya know, stuff like that. Still awkward wiping and showering, but time will get me into more of a rhythm.
So for a few months I’ll just have to look at the car on the lift, and dream of better days ahead!
