'69 Blazer Build

Nice

Looks Nice I've had 3 gallons of Als sitting in the garage for like a year and a half now. How'd it go on? how's the prep?

I got it from BarryB on 67-72chevytrucks. It took four gallons to do the entire tub which includes the sides, tailgate and I also did the engine side of the firewall. I bought four gallons and the gun to spray it with for $450 shipped. I was real easy to work with.

It went down easy. I regulated the air down to 30 lbs and it sprayed real nice with a full open gun trigger. If you are using the gun and hopper they supply make sure the handle for the hopper is on the tip side of the gun.

I followed their prep to a tee. Sanded real good, then used a paint supply wax grease oil remover, then al's primer.

Mask real good though if you are using a gun, the overspray is bad.

Looks like the texture isn't too bad... any good photos that show it a little more close-up? What would you estimate the final thickness of the coating to be? :thinking:

Where did you stop at the door openings. Did you go out on the rocker or stop at the door lip?

I cut out the worst of it and used a patch panel made for a truck bed side. It took some shaping to get it in there looking correct. The rust that is farthest back I wire wheeled down as far as possible and then used a rust converter with an etching primer over the top. Then body filler to fill in the pitting.

It is going to be close to the stock blue that it came with. Maybe a tad lighter.

I just spoke to the body/paint guy today and it is looking like a couple more weeks and it will be done. I went and checked it out today and it was nice to see it all in one color even if it is just primer with a guide coat on it.
 
Damn it, I was really hoping to see a fresh paint job on the 69' when I had seen that you replied.

I guess I'll have to wait a couple more weeks.:rolleyes:

if you dont mind me asking how much they are charging you and what kind of service their doing that would be great. ive been getting quotes for a while just waiting for the wallet to stop crying.

I did all the rust repair and welded in new panels and such. I tried my hand at body work but just dont have the patience for it. So I paid to have all the body work done. There was no major dents but quite a few dings here and there along with some minor dents near the tail lights. They figured it needed about 20 hours of body work. The paint will be a base/clear for $2700
