6l90 converter and cooling mods. Who's done what?

I never even thought of reading the Internal sensor :doah:

Hottest I've ever seen mine.

Also realized the one in my wife's truck that sees 200+ regularly is a 4l60... :doah:

That's pretty good, IMO.
The one in my company truck runs 185* a fair amount in town when the ambient temperature is over 90*. It has 174K on it now and still has the 2-3 flair on upshifts at light throttle, as described in a TSB for the early 6L90E. So it's on borrowed time.
I have gotten it close to 200* when towing an empty mixer truck across town in the summer. 33K at max of 40 mph.

The Ferd 10 speed ecoboost trucks at work need to be at 200* to check the fluid level with the dipstick that you access from underneath the truck.

Changed my fluid and filter today.
Id say it's been done before, or it's just in awesome shape.
This is how it looked after taking the pan offIMG_20251204_153454387_HDR.jpgIMG_20251204_153441296_HDR.jpg

No metal anywhere and very minimal clutch material.
Which bugs me , because I got the P0777 code 2 days ago.

Transmission dude says he's actually only seen it be the solenoid once ever.
He said it's usually something else like filter, fluid level, etc.
So I started there lol.

Can you test the solenoid? How hard is it to remove?

It's part of this giant brown thing and its all one big expensive chunk :doah:

At least I know my converter is good to this point.

I looked up that solenoid unit. It's about $800 give or take $200 depending on where. And requires specialized programming after it's installed to even work.
Sonnax sells rebuilt ones cheaper, but all they do is clean it up, replace FAILED components, and test the rest.
If I'm going to pay to have it done and programmed, I want ALL NEW components. Why wait for another solenoid to fail in a year or two and do it again.... lol.

So far so good, no repeat issues:dunno:
Fingers crossed, lol.
