700r4 blowout thread *ITS DONE!* :)

Lastly, be aware that GM's ratio "mindset" has changed a bit too. 4.10's are standard with the 6.0L motors in the HD models. That's a 30" tall tire too, with only a .78 OD ratio. A 700R4 has a .7 OD ratio.

Go 5.13 and dont look back.

I can't wait till Avery moves to Texas... he'll be within backhanding distance of big brother Manny. :haha:
haha I just spilled some of my lunch on my keyboard :haha:

I went back by the shop b/c I forgot the paper work last night..all said and done it was $2,045 I believe...
I'll take a pic of it and show what that included later.

It ran like a champ today...I put it in OD b/c he said it would be fine and it was...when I was going down the freeway it was at about 1800-2000 rpm when I was keeping up with traffic in the fast lane (around here thats about 70-80mph).
But if I started to go up a hill it would start slowing down...drop about 5mph then it would kick down into 3rd and once I got on flat ground again it would pop back into OD so I'm still hunting around from 3rd to 4th...

I've got about $900 saved up and a big check coming this friday (spring break hours) so I should have over $1,110 by the weekend...the two big things left are the gears and the tires...I voted gears but my dad was suggesting since I can keep it in 3rd for now I might want to look into tires b/c its beginning to get to a point where its a safety factor. So iono I'll see.

I was thinking that since my front two are in such great shape I'd just replace the back two but thats about $800 because MT thinks their tires are gold plated or something. :)

But since I've been having rubbing issues w/ my 15's on my calipers I was also kicking around the idea of going up...16's have the safety bead but are limited in tire options, 16.5's have lots of options but no safety bead so I was thinking of just jumping up to some 17's since its not like I air down or anything...lmk what you guys think. So either replace my two rear tires and call it good...
Or sell my wheels/tires and get some 17's and 4 new tires...

If money is an issue. Sounds like it is. Just grind some more and buy two new tires, if that's all you need. 17's raise the price a lot over a smaller rim!

If you do go to a different set altogether, do you need such a wide tire? I personally don't like tires that wide, so I haven't done the research, but I assume they are pricier than a narrower width.

what tires are u going to get? i hope not Mickeys

I don't know yet. I would like to keep it simple with some TSL radials since they are cheap and are a proven tire.
But I do like my MT's...they are pricey (about $415 a tire for my 38.5/16-15) but they ride well at highway speeds and I've never had a problem with them.

Do TSL radials do ok at highway speeds? I mean sure on paper the radial is supposed to be the obvious choice for a street truck but does anyone here dd with 38"ish tsl radials?

I'm open to whatever though.

get 39.5 irok radials. i ran the 39.5 bias iroks and they were awesome on the street. unbalanced they were smooth up to 75mph! and they werent that loud surprisingly. id imagine the radials would be even quieter and smoother, which is hard to think since the bias rode so well.

I'll have to check and see if they measure out or not...b/c if they are like these and are 1.5" or so shorter than they are badged as then I'd end up on 35.5's and that wouldn't work...

Oh and yeah I know I can cut but I'm just trying to avoid it for as long as possible :) But maybe the time has come...

well i know the 36" iroks on 15" rims measure out to 36.8" i saw it with my own eyes. so thats a cheap way to get a 37 ;)

I just checked out 4wheelparts to get an idea of prices and it looks like my tires have dropped like a rock...they are down to $300!
Someone check this out to make sure I'm not missing something...

38.5" tall 16" wide for a 15" rim Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Bias Ply's...thats what I have right now...and thats what that link shows if I'm not going crazy...so heck if they are down to $300 I'll just order two new ones for the rear and call it good.
