'71 K5 Blazer CST "Mean Green"

I'll probably do a comp test and maybe pull the heads to see if it's a few valves or something simple.

So this is about to be a long but somehwhat entertaining post. I was getting pissed about the engine running like crap and at this point to busy to try and rebuild it or put another one in / find a decent one somewhere for cheap. So I listed it for sale on Craigslist. In 2 hours time I had 4 calls and one guy wanted it that night but I said it was too late to come out and see it. The next morning I took the ad down after second guessing selling it. I've wanted one for a long time. One nicer than I have, but that takes some big bucks these days. So just for fun I put it on eBay with a $5000 reserve later dropping it to $4800 after I saw how fast I climbed. I had over 4100 views, 125 watchers, 31 bids and it sold for $4849. I was instantly remorseful again for selling it. It was exciting to watch the auction seeing what I though it was worth but once it sold I was like, shit! Now I have to sell it. Turns out the buyer was a POS, and didn't even try to follow through. Just messaged me and said I'm not buying. Sorry for wasting your time. No joke. I'm glad he didn't though. I found that my laziness or over thinking, or both to just pop the valve covers could have made someone an easy fix. Pulled both covers today and his thing was literally running on 2 cylinders. 3 rockers were off on the passenger side. 2 were off on the drivers, and 1 is about to fall off the push rod. It sat from 1984 til last year when the guy I got it from drug it home. I'm sure the lifters lost their prime and the rockers fell off when he first got it started. So I have some work to do but shouldn't be much and hopefully have a good running 350.

I, too, am glad you held on to it!

It's always cool to me to see the progression of a truck from it's inception on ck5 to whatever it finally becomes. And you've made good progress, and you update regularly, so it's quite enjoyable to watch your thread and I think you ended up with the best outcome.

Also, don't even think of selling it until after it's summer time and you've been able to drive it topless for a while, then I think you will never actually want to try again :thumb:

P.S. If worse comes to worst you should try and sell it on here. Of course that is a much smaller audience than ebay & craigslist, but you never know.

I'd would have kept them. I stock pile tires.

They are just too big for anything I have with half ton axles. Maybe I missed it, or just forgot, but what gears did this come with?

Pulled rocker studs. Can't believe it wouldn't have bent the pushrods first. Been easier to fix too.

Really! How why and how do you fix that?
How - pulled the head
Why - duh. Needs lift at those valve ;)

There is a tool somewhere to cut and thread the bosses for screw in studs without using an endmill

image.png It works well tool bolts in place so you can pull a stud out and then you use it to align the tap then flip it 180 and do other side

waiting on the numbers actually. $50 is all he wants for them. Bout all I'd like to spend.
