'71 k502 The Misfit

I'm really impressed with what you are doing - love the way you opened up your firewall to accomodate the BBC - now that's the way to do it - much better than the way mine was modified!

I think one aspect that helps in my case is that my truck was probably bound for the junk yard if I didn't decide to buy it. When it comes time to cut something up on it I don't feel like I am destroying a good truck. Yukon, your truck is very nice and I would have had to think long and hard before I chopped one as nice as your truck up to the extent that I have been paring away at mine.

I welded in the three pieces that allowed me to cut the floor support out and make room for the transfer case to ride in the cab with us.

Not to hijack, but I couldnt figure out how to send him this photo. For NoCalTank - Here's the best photo I can find. Its not mine, but its what I did, except I used regular engine mounts from the parts store (Napa or Star), not the circular special order ones the photo shows.

The tabs to cut off would have been inside the frame channel, parallel with the bottom. With it on there, the mount is just too tall to fit into the channel, but once you line up the bolt hole on each side on the top, you'll be able to see where you need to cut each tab off to make the mount side inside (watch out for fuel and brake lines! Long story...).

Well what do you know? I messed around with the DIY4X engine mount and swapped the cross brace around 180 degrees and it fit with the big block chevy in between the rails. I noticed as the cross brace was sitting on the ground that the tube appeared to sit slightly off center, so I spun it around and it fit like a glove (kind of like an OJ with swelled hands glove, but it fit) you could probably fold a dollar bill in half and slide it through the tightest two spots (corners of the oil pan) I will make some 1/8" spacers from some sheet metal to give it just a little more room I think.

I got my new soft top and my Cage radius arms from the UPS man. Hopefully meaningful progress can resume here shortly. The Cage radius arms are serious beef, Jim at Cage Offroad was great to work with. I have been really lazy and my attention has had to shift to my boat as my Lake Powell trip is coming right up.

I installed my Staun beadlocks today. After reading about them I was dreading the install. It turned out to be really easy. I did four of them in about three hours.

The Stauns are composed of three parts:

casing
tire tube (from a motorcycle, chopper I think)
air channel/valve stem replacement

You have to drill a hole in your rim for the inner tube valve stem.

My radius arm showed up from Cage Offroad. Cage builds a pretty beefy product with 2" tube, huge heim and a super size frame side bracket.

Everything has been extra crazy but, I am ready to get a whole bunch done and limping around by July. The weather here has been not so friendly to working in a driveway and we are about to have our first baby. The good news is that I have pretty much everything and should make some good progress as soon as the weather is a tad more friendly.

Great news - congrats! Glad to hear it was something good that was keeping us from getting an update ;)

The baby could be born any minute but I was able to sneak in ordering a set of headers for the project. I ordered a set of Hooker Super Comp Shorties. It appears in the trial fit that only minor frame grinding will be necessary to fit them in a first gen. I am also using a DIY engine mount.
