'72 Bluggy: Rocks/ 47s/ LoMax

I got my rig pulled out of the garage on Saturday - pulled the fuel tank, the rear wiring, the steering, & disconnected the brake line & all body mount bolts.

It is ready to LIFT! - would have done it yesterday but it rained all day.

Sweet, sweet, sweet    !!

Looks like you've made it around the bend and now headed for the home-stretch :D :D !! Do you think you'll finish it by Dec. as you guesstimated?

As soon as I learn how to post pics I'll start posting my progress as well. I'll be ordering the Rockwells this week. Hope to have axles and tires on the Blazer by Christmas.

Lookin good, Stallone ;) :D !!
it's marion cobretti, not stallone :haha: i hope to have it done by dec but i'm pretty overloaded with school work right now. reading, tests, observations, etc. but i'm one step closer to finishing anyway.

here's what i did this past saturday. i needed to go wheelin'...i'm like a crack addict, i need my fix :eek1: ...so here are a few shots of my 4runner, wheelin' in the mud & even getting stuck, not too bad considering i followed my buddy's yeep with 35" boggers

wish i had some...really do, but haven't done jack. we finished throwing on the other coats of primer. i'm in the process of getting a plasma cutter that will slice thru 1/2" like butter, then i'll move onto boxing the sob. lol. need to find my 52/63" springs as well.

How are you envisioning boxing the frame around the crossmembers? Will you weld the plates all in around to the crossmembers?

I've thought about doing this - but am worried about that, as well as what about all the little holes in the frame that could fill the frame with mud?

mud is almost as bad as sand, that crap gets everywhere. :haha: the only hole that i plan to cover in the frame is the old front shackle hanger hole since i'll be relocating it for the 52" swap. my friend and i came up with a few ideas this past weekend. either put the plates a bit into the frame so it can be flat or on the outside of the frame. really haven't decided. we're going to weld the plates as close as possible to the crossmembers, i really don't want to take the chance of removing the xmembers and messing up the alignment :doah: we plan to leave the ends open to be able to wash the inside of the frame if need be. i think it'll be fine setup in this manner, then with a 10 pt cage, i'll have all the rigidity that i need. :D

So - not to be a smart-a$$ - but what really are the benefits to boxing in the frame?

I mean obviously it give rigidity & will strengthen the frame around the steering - but so what? Don't we all want our rigs to be "flexy?"

I can see rigidity being important in like a drag car - but school me as to the advantages of doing this.

(Only reason I ask is I am at a fantastic point to do mine right now should I decide to do so)

The reason the factory boxes late model cab areas is to prevent flex in that area for nothing other than squeak-prevention. Notice the axle areas are still open channel.
If you put a four point roll cage with triangles you'll get a more rigid frame as a bi-product from it.

I'm going to put a cage from axle to axle so I won't have any frame flex. I'm going to rely on all suspension for that.
well i plan to add a 10 pt cage forward of the f axle and rearward of the r axle. just don't want to put all this money & time into my project and end up snapping or cracking the frame on it's 5th trip out.

...well went home this weekend hoping to get a lot done, but Sunday is a very sluggish day to get work done. a buddy and I were half as$ing everything. my buddy was tired and I kept getting lost in my thoughts. it happens. but we managed to cut out the templates for the frame. next step is to start carving the sheetmetal. other than that, still stuck with too many parts and not enough time...

well really busted my ass off this past week. tuesday i received my PVC inserts from USA6x6 with no problems at all. they shipped when they said they would ship, so nothing else matters. wednesday i woke up early, & took my wheels & suspension stuff to get sandblasted & then started throwing primer on them. thursday, woke up early again, ran out of nitrogen the night before, so all i could do was round off the edges of the 52" springs. friday, woke up early again, started to sand the D60/70 & pretty much took all afternoon to get that done. saturday, woke up early & started throwing primer on the axles & adding a second coat to my wheels. ran out of nitrogen again. :haha: monday, woke up late, but still managed to throw a couple of coats of gloss black paint on everything. finished up the frame, so it's ready to get everything bolted on. this weekend i'll be throwing on the last coats of gloss black & start setting up the suspension. my wife's uncle is already waiting for me to take it out to his shop so we can start boxing it up. well, sorry for the quick report, i just have a crap load of pics of upload.

Looks good!
I always like seeing someone else doing up a first gen.
It's more work than a second, but well worth it!

Just a suggestion, I would do the kingpins on that 60 BEFORE you realize how much deathwoble sucks.

And I also noticed you mentioned moving your front shackle hangers for the 52's?

Just curious because I didn't have to move mine at all on my 71.
