72 burb (this is why i can't go to salvage yards)

So my buddy with the wrecker flatbed has been busy as crap and I got impatient. Drove the diesel suburban in to pick up the 72 suburban. Something poetic about that. Noticed lots of new little things. Like it has all of the original jack components intact. It also has an under dash 8 TRACK PLAYER!!!!. Its aftermarket but I vow to mAke it work in the truck again. I ha sent seen an 8 track in a coons age but my truck will once again be rocking it. Ha!

Nice. Reminds me of my buddy's diesel towing Suburban. Also a Cummins conversion. He got bored with the 6.5TD. ;)

I will be posting a list of initial needs in the wanted section. Small interior stuff to begin with. Thought I might post it here too. Just so you guys can check your stash.
Instrument panel
Ignition switch
Headlight switch
Heater controls
Glove box
Dash pad
Steering wheel
Two black door panels
3 window crank handles
Column shifter handle
Drivers door hinges

I bet it felt good to get it home

Check eBay for some of that stuff, I see instrument clusters and glove boxes all the time and at decent prices. Places like Classic Industries and LMC have a lot of the interior stuff too, more of it than for square bodies it seems like.

Ill be pulling the engine and all the parts I am not going to use. Hopefully the 350 And powerglide will put enough in my pocket to either buy a 60 for the front or a set of decent wheels for it. I need to get it rolling and steering at least. Cleaned up and start mAking some decisions on paint. Drivetrain is the lAst of my worries right now. That will come together quickly once I make a final decision on it.

I have an extra cluster with all the gauges. I'll see what condition it's in if your interested.

Upgrading the rear 52" rear springs to 3/4 ton springs before adding the 14 bolt rear axle should result in about 2" lift in the rear. Now to figure out which salvage yard springs I can swap in. The fun stuff.

Depends on what springs I can find. All I want from it is better capacity for towing (possibly). Hopefully with out the buggy ride.

So first off i need to get this project on wheels. Pun intended. I think ill go ahead and strip the axles out on this and replace them first. I need to locate Another set of 8 lug wheels. Then I can start playing with it seriously.

Pretty sure for the time being I may just refresh the 350 that's in it and put a 4l80/205 combo in to get it under power again. I had those things laying around anyway.

Thanks! I just need the panel. I am using Auto meter gages.

I found it. The black could use a little touch up, but the chrome looks pretty good, just needs some cleaning. No cracks or damage. PM me if you're interested.

BTW, if you are going with autometer gauges, you might want to start out with a panel like this:

The lower gauges don't fit in the holes so they have to be drilled out and it's a lot easier to drill on a blank surface than to try and widen the holes that already exist. I used the above panel for mine and ended up with this:

I have some of those parts listed off a '71 K10 Suburban I parted out decades ago...

I have everything listed except the door panels and dash pad, steering wheel.but I'm not sure if I have all the window cranks,I have at least one-- or the heater controls,or the door hinge,I'll have to dig up the box of parts..

I might have the colum shifter handle, also have the T-case boot & trim plate, ash tray, white sun visors, glove box (door only)-and I had a pair of factory "small" exterior door mirrors I'd never seen before, the glass got busted though, and I may only have one now..

I had at least 3 dash clusters too,but I know I gave at least one complete one away to a friend a year or so ago for his '69 C-10..
I probably still have some "parts" ones..

Sometimes I really hate learning new stuff. Went out and started stripping down the engine bay on the suburban. Just for giggles i came back in and ran the numbers on the small block in the truck. Assuming it was a 350. Well it isnt. Its a 327 and the correct vintage to be original to the truck. Crap.
