Where is the top view? :D

Nice work.

I wouldn't worry about the 29" tube, I don't think you'll ever know the difference, but then again, you will know it's different, and I think that's most of the issue. :waytogo:

You are SO right.... A couple of bends swapped-in for a straight section of tube, and I'll be able to sleep at night. :haha:

Here are a couple more from last night, now that I've had a chance to go through the photos on a larger screen.....

You can really see how hard I'm working that #3 tube to keep it tight with #5... there's only a small amount of space there to sneak the #7 tube through, and as JD noted earlier... plug access and head flange bolts are always a concern. I can still get a deep socket and ratchet onto the #5 plug to loosen it, but there isn't enough room anymore to fully unthread it unless I pull the ratchet head out of there (or use some kind of swivel extension). No biggie.... all the other plugs are super easy to reach so it's a minor concession to get clearance around the steering shaft. :waytogo:

For #7, I will probably do a similar routing to the #8 cylinder.... just a lazy flat U-bend that lays over the top of the framerail so that I get a good runner length, even though it's the closest port to the collector.

Greg, while everything looks good it's just sad to see so much going on with the headers as the best performance gain from exhaust comes from as straight a shot as possible with the correct size tubing for the application. I do understand that with the power i've built this engine to have you wont have any worries anyhow but sometimes people get too creative when doing exhaust work that it hampers perfomance. Please dont take this the wrong way as your build is superb. I guess I just have to keep in mind that you're not building a race car like i was used to doing.

I will start with the obligatory: BECAUSE RACECAR!!!

:haha:

Seriously though... there are book's-worth of information on exhaust design and I'm sure I could go a LOT deeper into that downward spiral trying to optimize everything perfectly.

Ultimately, it came down to just a few simple criteria:

1. Use the correct 1-7/8" sized material
2. Try to hit the 36" primary length recommended by the GM 502 Crate motor documentation
3. Design a system that would fit in a VERY limited amount of remaining space and not interfere with wheel/tire travel or turning

That's pretty much it.

I'm sure that bends add restriction, but not all bends are the same either. A typical header does an almost perfect 90* (very sharp, small CLR) bend DIRECTLY as it exits the cylinder head. That is a HUGE restriction to flow regardless of how straight the remainder of the tubing is..... working with all this 6" CLR type tubing gets rid of those really sharp bends and should increase flow dramatically. Obviously there are more of those "gentle" bends per primary than usual... so there is still a penalty in terms of flow, but don't forget... I am synchronizing the firing order at the collector so that the pulses are arriving sequentially (counterclockwise on the PS, and clockwise on the DS). That way I get that cool "mirror image double vortex" effect just like fighter planes!!!!

Thanks for labeling the views for us :D

That number 7 looks like a doozy, and yet it needs to connect to the inside of the header it appears. It will be interesting to see how you thread that one through there and still maintain the Greg tolerance.

You're welcome (x4)....

Sometimes I take for granted that everyone automatically knows what the heck my garage looks like, what my camera angles are, and which direction things are facing.... never hurts to throw a few labels on things. :waytogo:

For some reason when I hit "post reply", it wouldn't do anything, just sat there like nothing ever happened. So I would wait a minute (read another thread), and then hit it again. And apparently I wasn't done, finally I was thinking WTF, why is nothing happening? So I opened the thread in another window and I had two more duplicates as well, for 6 posts of the same thing!

I deleted the duplicates, but I am glad you quoted them, to save the humor. :rotfl:

alright, whiskey tango foxtrot!? :haha:

I know for a fact I only hit it once this time, nothing happened, so I opened it in a different tab again to check and now there is two posts! :dunno:

Here goes 2- 6 more...
