I would say technically you got part of it out into the sun, there seems to be a few bits missing.:haha: I bet it felt great to see it outside the garage, even if it was for only a short period of time.

Few more....

Definitely a cool feeling to see it outdoors. Still SO much left to do though...

That the Eastwood blast tank. It's set up for sand now, but those units can be converted pretty easily for other media types. I think it's mostly accomplished with different mixing valves and blaster orifice sizes.

I'm somewhat surprised that nobody commented on my ability to get through the garage door at all....

I was able to clear the door opening with less than 1/4" to spare. I didn't air down the tires and the 2" body pucks are still installed so that was sort of a "worst case" scenario.

It rolls quite easily, so even by myself I can move it in or outside... So I will definitely do it again on nice days. If for no other reason than to have a change of scenery and more workshop space for a day. :thumb:

I'm soooo sick of my K5 being on sawhorses, was really trying to move towards getting axles under her, till Mutt interupted...

I'm sure just being able to sweep out the bay and clean up is nice.... love the front axle, bet it rolls around pretty damn good! :haha:

I was going to ask about this on Saturday when I seen the post. That's pretty awesome that you were able to get it out of the garage. I'm damn jealous..:o

I need to get mine out of the garage so bad. Just to delouse my garage of piles of hidden grinder dust and whatnot would be awesome.

What ever happened to your tube tailgate? I thought that it was welded to the pass side C pillar.. :dunno:

The tube tailgate was 100% bolt-on... so I just unbolted it for now. Pretty sure it's going in the scrap pile though. Like a few other "experiments" I've tried sometimes the results just aren't quite right. I will end up doing a different style later on, probably much more like the "Truck Gate" style ones that were posted earlier in this thread. Their baja style one is reversable so you can still keep the factory tailgate, but can also set it up for a large rear overhang with the spare tire by mounting the hanger the opposite way.

Next time around I am definitely going with a real set of bearings on the hinge part too.

Gotcha, hopefully you can save some of the tube.. At least the copes on the ends for future whatevers..

Does that front end constitute a 5-link?? I don't think its gonna be good for much articulation and may ride kinda harsh. Either way, I'm jealous. Looking really good Greg.

Hey AJ! Good to hear from you. :waytogo:

Technically, I think that's called a zero-link.... No degrees-of-freedom available for movement in any of those bars (at least I hope not!). I might even be able to start mocking up the front axle without hitting those bars... That would be convenient.

I'm looking forward to seeing you get back on your build when time allows. There are a bunch of us waiting to hear that BBC roar to life... :thumb:

2012.09.06 - UPDATE! - IT NEVER ENDS....

Remember how I was remodeling my kitchen? Well now winter is approaching fast and I've got a few leaky roofs that are preventing me from doing the final interior finishing. Can't do final drywall with water leaking in and staining the ceilings...

So I decided to get up in the roof to get started with the demo.

It's the steepest roof remaining to be done, so I thought it would be good to do it first and get it over with... It doesn't seem steep in photos, but it sure seems that way when you're up there sliding around on roofing debris!

Once I got to this point, it promptly began raining and didn't stop for almost 2 days......figures. :doah:

So....with nothing better to do, I figured I'd log a few hours on the K5 build.

The agenda was to make the body adjustments so that I could remove the 2" body pucks and lower the body down into the final position.

I cut the offending metal away that was blocking the #2 body mount.. Then turned my attention to the mods for the #3 mount. When I built the rear suspension, the mounting hole was shifted 1.5" inboard to clear the upper link when it swung upwards. That meant that the original hole and landing pad was now 1.5" off also.

The strategy was to mark the section, make an offset cut with extra material on one side... Then cut, flip and reweld the part back into place to relocate the hole.

null-13.jpg

So I marked one side at a 5" centerline, and the other at 6-1/2". Cut it, cleaned it up and tacked it into place...

Worked perfectly.

I finally had the clearance needed to pull the pucks and get the body into its final position.

No more daylight gaps above the frame... But clearance around the rear tire is getting a little tight! :haha:

That's all for now..... The sun is back out for the next few days, so I've got to get my asphalt in gear. :D

You never cease to impress me... Nice work with the body lift removal:waytogo:

Happy birthday btw:thumb::pimp:

That had to be a lot of fun getting the grinder in there for a strait cut, I bet...:doah:

What type of roofing are ya going back with?

Happy B-Day, too.. Hope it's a great day for ya..:woot:

gonna section the qrter?

I'm going to have to do something if I want more than about 1" of bump travel!

Believe it or not, with a link suspension it won't require an aggressive amount of cutting... On the rear fenders anyway

lurked for a long time. i've been following this for 7 years and im impressed at every step of the way. keep up the good work and roofing sucks!!!
