what kind of shape is the '69 in? :confused:is this just a passing thought or are ya going to sell it? i have 2 '69's already, but i believe both are in worse shape than the '72 your building and you're scaring the bejezus outta me:bow:, wondering if this is something i want to tackle or not!:doah:. 1 is just a tub, the other is sitting on a mangled frame!:( whats your plans for the 72 frame, since you are going w/ full tube chasis?

Oh it's nice.

Tough to find one any better.

is it already built as per his signature?

i have a 1st gen truck that is in pretty good condition, i thought about grafting the floor/firewall/windshield onto the best blazer as the back 1/2 of 1 is pretty good, and use a cage in place of the rocker boxes, i've asked about it but no1 seeems to have done it or think it a good idea...thoughts?

There are pics of the '69 in my photo gallery link.

It's a bare Arizona rust-free tub & front clip. I also have a bare frame for it now. There's a good chance it may end up with 1-Ton axles included depending on how this '72 build evolves in the short term.

Sure, do it.
I've got one that's about 5 different trucks combined.
Blazer tub + truck firewall + blazer windshield frame + another quarter + doors from another blazer...etc.

Anything is possible.

What's the timeframe on selling the 69? 1 month, 6months? I'll need a while to convice the wife...:D

Probably somewhere between those two numbers...

The nice thing for you is that even though it was just a tub when I bought it, I've already gone to the trouble of getting the VIN validated and registered in CA. It has a valid CA title, a set of new plates and has been correctly "Non-OPed" so that when the time comes, all you'd have to do is go to DMV and transfer the paperwork....no visual inspection or other "out-of-state" purchase BS.

wait a minute

i asked 1st, i get the 1st "wow, thats more than i can spend on a tub and have to trailer it 3/4 ways across country'':haha: trade you a 96 4dr 4wd leather tahoe runs good w/bad tranny w/134,000 miles=for it w/frame and 1 tons and the 396 and you bring it to me when you pickup the tahoe...oh wait you sold the bigblock. i would settle for the 572 or 632:D...w/o your motor maybe do it anyway!

My vote would be this subject matter works best in another thread, can we get back to the build please?

Greg,

Any update on this? We're all anxious to see! :ears: (and hear)

Still waiting on the replacement metal for those lower A-pillars.... should be here soon.

On a similar note, I did receive Qty 6 sheets of 4' x 3' 18GA sheetmetal, and 60' of 1x1" square tubing. That should be plenty to build a welding cart, welding table, and still be able to do patchwork on the firewall and other areas where custom sheetmetal is required.

Unfortunately, these things take time and I've had to learn to be patient. It's not as fun as having updates every day, but this ain't "Overhaulin" you know! :haha:

2008.02.18 - QUICK UPDATE

This week, I managed to place an order for a couple new tools that I'll need for the build.... a 1.75" ProTools die (for the cage bending) and the associated degree ring and stop for the bender, so that I can accurately bend precise and repeatable, complex multi-axis bends. That's $400 out of the K5 bank account, and unfortunately just about empties it until I sell a few more parts from the "takeoff" pile.

I don't really NEED these tools yet, but there is always a decent amount of lead time from ProTools on their stuff so I figured it would be smart to order early so I don't have to sit around waiting when I finally have more hours available to spend out in the shop.

Today is President's Day, and amazingly I got the day off from my employer. I'm not sure what I'll be able to do today (there are a few "honey do's" pending) but I'm sure I can get a few hours in the shop for cleaning/organizing and I might even get to start on that welding cart project.

:usaflag:

I have been sneaking into the manspace to play with my ram mount creation...didn't get too far but I reallllllllly miss working on my junk and wheeling it for that matter....

wow! you tackled a big one there, but it definatley looks like you are handling it well.
Nice work.

subscribing. I want a first gen blazer, but my wife might officially freak out if I drag home another "project".

2008.03.04 - UPDATE! - THE BACKORDER HAS ENDED...

I've been waiting for one final piece of A-pillar sheetmetal to arrive so that I could start re-assembling the passenger side. It finally here, so I spent some time getting parts fitted to the truck.

Here's a shot of the original A-pillar bottom, and the new piece I'd been waiting weeks for:

As you can see, it is substantially different around the area where the front large fenderbolt attaches. Originally, I had attached this new patch panel with the intent to trim it to match the look of the original...and then I'd have to mark and drill the holes. However, the more I thought about it...the more I liked the original one better. So I cut it all back off.....then did a vertical cut and re-installed the original one plus a smaller amount of the new part.

Here it is... mostly finish welded and ground smooth. Not bad!

I wanted to deal with the cab support next, but as I was reminded by VTBlazer...this sheetmetal is a big puzzle, so you have to figure out the sequence to do everything in order. Up behind that A-pillar "4-bolts" area the next piece of metal is the inner rocker panel.....then comes the cab support....and finally, the small reinforcing tab that supports the fender mount. Once I figured all that out, I realized that I couldn't finish the cab support without first installing the inner rocker replacement.

Fortunately, the reproduction part is quite nice and I was able to get it into position with very little trouble.

Here's a closeup of how all the new metal is coming together in that front footwell. The cab support is actually a bit short, so I'm going to need to make some modifications to it before welding it in place

That's all for now.....not bad considering I've only been able to steal a few hours in the shop over the past two days.

Looks good. If it helps any, I ordered some GM outer rockers and replaced the repro one I welded on over the weekend. The difference between them was night and day. The GM rocker fit exactly right without any tweaking needed.
