I don't think 2" is out of the ball park for scrub radius on truck. I have also seen some people claim zero scrub radius is actually a bad thing. A little is better than none.

OK....

A few more hours of work, and the program has already evolved to v1.1 !! :D

I decided to go back as suggested and plug in all the numbers from my previous 1-Ton setup to see where I came from and what sort of scrub radius I'd already been living with.....

According to the new calcs, here's what the 1-Ton setup looked like:

For comparison, here's what a current combination on the Mog-9 setup would look like:

Scrub-Mog9.jpg

As you can see, the so-called "Good" setup on my 1-Tons had a scrub of 4.50"..... not spectacular, and quite a bit larger than I was expecting. In contrast to that, a new Mog-9 configuration using the very common Hummer H2 wheel (with only 5.56" of backspacing) has almost 1/2 the scrub radius of my previous setup.

Now I'm a bit confused, but I guess also a bit relieved... My old truck was totally manageable on the street & highway, so I guess this new setup should certainly not be any worse and may even be noticeably better in the way it drives. :dunno:

On to some Ackermann calculations, I suppose.... :haha:

What would a stock vehicle look like?

I'd need to know:

  • Wheel diameter
  • Wheel width
  • Wheel offset
  • Tire diameter
Basically with that I could do another revision of the DANA-60 chart to see what "Factory" scrub was... If someone had a K30 spec sheet that might have the necessary data...

:usaflag:

Factory Assembly Manual doesn't show frame dimensions for Blazer....only for pickup and 'Burb.

:usaflag:

Still valuable info worth using, the frame rail seperation between the three should all be the same.

Might be enough to get thing's started anyway...dunno.

Searching for those factory specs...

Greg I do lots of alignments on semi's. I don't see your SAI as horrible. You may have to mess with the caster some for steering effort as it relates to the feel at the wheel. Don't induce negative camber with the wheels pointing straight ahead, that will probably mess up the toe settings. Also note that castor can mess up the toe settings if it not set correctly at normal ride height.

If you go on Hunter engineerings website they have a couple of good white papers on alignment. http://www.hunter.com/pub/undercar/index.htm

Wow, this is a totally awesome thread. Being an mechanical engineer I'm loving it, and can appreciate the desire for all the extra time you are taking to do it the right way, doing calculation and limiting the guess-and-check.

The one thing I can never figure out is how you guys can afford to do this stuff!

1. Cash paycheck
2. Spend paycheck on K5 parts
3. Repeat every two weeks, until truck is completed.

Any questions? :haha:

Yes, i have a question, where are the latest updates at? There are MANY people watching this thread including me and we want status updates every hour on the hour. :D

I will redirect your questions to the flu virus currently taking up residence in my body. According to him (her?) the only approved activity is coughing and sleeping about 22 hours a day.... I get on CK5 for a few minutes at a time, then I get dizzy and go lie down again.

Happy New Year indeed...

Quick take something to get rid of the flu virus and replace it with the K5 virus once again. :D

It's felt like it....

I've been achy and miserable since the day after Christmas. Today I actually left the house and ran a few errands....that was the most I've done since getting sick.

The good news (if there is any) is that being stuck in the house has forced me to spend a LOT of time in front of the PC instead. As a result, I have massively reworked my old ExcelCAD program (4-link suspension design spreadsheet) and I doubt that I would have spent quite as much time adding all this new functionality if I was well enough to be in the shop...

Maybe to late but I was able to get ahold of those frame dimension's for you.
