72 K5 questions

Greg thanks for your input, it is very much appreciated. The truck will be sea foam green. I just worry about looking too new. I kind want to drive a beater that is all new. The one thing I have learned about blazers it's all about rockers. Without rockers restored you are screwed you cant do anything to your blazer that makes sense before the rockers are fixed. I just wish i knew what the hell I was looking at.

NorCal69 has a bunch of good photos of rocker repairs and outer rocker alignment stuff. BP71K5 has good stuff in his build thread as well.... Good stuff to study if you want to get more educated about the work that you are paying to have done.

One other thing I'd suggest is to replace all the body mounts NOW if you haven't already. The body shop is going to spend a lot of time (hopefully) gapping and aligning your body panels for paint. If the body mounts are shot and you end up replacing them later on it going to change all of those gaps and undo all of that painstaking work.

body mounts have been order along with new doors so they can align everything at once.

Truck coming along well first side almost done done. Waiting for body mounts to come in. This is the first color chart I have seen that has my color on it.

Any thoughts on paint would be appreciated.

Awesome progress! My vote is stick with the stock color, especially if you are fond of it. In my town there are a couple of the orange ones, one of the ochre yellow ones, and a dark green jimmy. I think there is also the bronze/brown 2wd. While I like the orange ones a lot, I don't think I would change mine to that color as there seems to be a lot of 'em.

Paint

Anybody a expert on paint on this board? My truck is getting closer to paint. Thank god I came to me senses and hired pros to do the work, otherwise it would be in pieces for the next couple of years or decades.

The original color is med green. (Seafoam Green) If I stay with it I was thinking of adding metallic to the color. Any thoughts?

I was also thinking of medium blue metallic.

Any paint suggestion would be appreciated.

paint color is an individual thing so unless you are doing something super crazy I say do what you like. If you're looking for specific paint advice though, I'd hit up ryoken. He's the resident paint guru.

What I should have posted, Is there any thing I shouldn't do. Clear coat or no clear coat? Is original color important in the resale market? The original Blazers just had solid colors with no clear coat. My paint guy wants to clear coat it. Clear coat is a better paint job but it won't look original. Is that important? I am pretty sure I am going with a blue or green metallic with a clear coat.
You are right color is a personal thing and normally I know exactly what I want but this one has been tough.

gotcha. As far as keeping to an original color goes, I think you are fine for whatever. Unless you were going for a pure stock resto I don't think it will change the resale value at all unless you were to go for something that was really dated (like crazy stripes or wild color combos).

Ryoken would have more to say on the clear coat issue, but if it was me, I'd clear it. I went with just regular 1 coat paint on mine because it was cheaper and I wish I hadn't. It would have held up a lot better with a clear coat.

The terms you guys are looking for are "single stage" vs. "basecoat/clearcoat"

1st Gens were all single stage paint originally. They look a bit less shiny than a clear-coat will.... But I'm sure a decent body shop could add a dulling agent to more closely replicate the look of single stage but with the durability of the more modern basecoat/clearcoat paints.

Personally I'm not a bit fan of "modern" colors on classic cars/trucks, but do what you like. :waytogo:

Only the hood is painted. Original color with pearl in it. Can't see the pearl unless you look for it.

Yeah, sounds like you've spent a few dollars alright!!!

I'm really digging the new/original color. Can't wait to see a fresh coat on the whole thing. :waytogo:

Looking good. I like that original color and the hubcaps.

I making them paint the bucket and weld it in place. I am also having a cushion made for it should ride nice. Actually the ompaloompas that are working on my truck use it as a step to get in out and seat to steer when moving.
