72 k5, sons first truck build.(officially NOT mine now..)

Frame is definitely tweaked, but I think that the truck is salvageable for sure. The frame might be able to be straightened, or source a clean frame and swap the body over. Is there axle tube bent too?

Glad nobody was hurt, but it does suck!

I havent been able to tell if the axle tube is bent. A new frame WOULD fix it... But not in my 26'x 11' garage. and where do I find one... let alone how do I get it to me ??? :dunno: I'd love to save the truck... but for us at this time I dont know what we could do. it would be a firewall forward frame splice at the least. which I'm not affraid of and Am capable of doing. but the body or something moved too. the distributor is pressing against the firewall, and the drivers door is now pinched too hard to budge it. that tells me the body flexed even farther back. Ill get even more pics and well see what happens. If nothing else I'll pick him up a DD of some sort and we'll turn this into a LONG term repair/restore.

He needs wheels...... and soon.

I'm not saying it's a little project, I just mean that the tub is saveable. Definitely a buzzkill though.

yeah the sheetmetal is all good still. its all frame damage i believe. and spring hangers are bent to h3ll. I have to go up friday and see what they say about the possible parts truck i found. JUST maybe I can rent some shop space from someone i know. theres 2 possabilities here. tools will be an issue, but :dunno: . I gotta see if the axles ok too. i gotta see what my kids opinions are too. we still havent even talked about it

one thing to keep in mind on what it took for damage is a Mini van with 2 adults and a few kids ran straight through a stop sign and hit him at like 25mph. she wasnt stopped as i had thought.

Hope she got a ticket for this. Her reckless driving could have killed 5 people, let alone how it has ruined your son's worked for truck.

he had 3 friends with him too. and I havent even seen a police report or talked to anyone yet :dunno: not sure how that is, considering its entirely in my name still.

Make the other insurance company buy or build you a new one.

Their fault they pay to fix. Or if you have full coverage get yours to fix it and then sue them for it.

Had a lady hit my parked Rabbit in front of my house. I paid $150 for it but the interior was really nice, her insurance paid me $1500. $100 later I had it fixed and was driving it.

few more pics, the one looking at the harmonic balancer is lined up with the center of the motor, notice where the frame is now. and its not totally accurate because the part of the frame where the motor mounts are is moved sideways too.

Talked to the cops yet? Insurance will want an accident report surely.

yeah I handed it to my agent a little bit ago and he says the other people haven't turned it in yet. So WE did:D Progressive is informed and will be getting back to me

you can see in the down the body shots that the front is skewed over.

Insurance said it was definitely being totaled, but cant say for how much due to the fact that it doesn't have a normal VIN. it has an iowa state issued title and vin. no factory vin at all.

WE FOUND A FRAME:woot: 3hrs from here, rust free, and all we gotta do is back the trailer in and they'll load it. we don't even have to remove it from the truck:D $750 :thumb: I don't know if that's expensive or not but I'm freakin thrilled with that

So someone removed the door jam data plate? That's where the vin is supposed to be. Right under the door striker. Hopefully you will get at least a few thousand bucks out of it. That will basically help rebuild what you got to that new frame. Now would be a good time to upgrade all the bushings underneith if you haven't already.

yeah they removed the plate and theres a vin sticker there now:dunno:

we plan on doing the suspension lift and removing the 3" body lift in the process

That's Weird they didn't just use the original vin. Unless It Was A rebuilt title or salvage vehicle. Maybe has lost title and had to reissue new vin. The original would be on glove box sticker if yours is still There. Luckily mine was but not in great shape. If the body lift Is Less than 3 Inches you could Leave it as it helps get to things and work on under the Body. Also help get the body away From the distributor if you have a hei now with the big cap. Lots of possibilities now that you have to rebuild it Again.
