72 k5, sons first truck build.(officially NOT mine now..)

I cant wait till we get it painted and get the soft top on:D its gonna definitely stand out around our town.

its about friggin time too:haha: its been in the shop WAY too long

got all the mounts in but it doesn't seem right:dunno: front sits WAY low. when looking at the frame from the level of the rocker box the box seems to be about a 1/2" or 3/4" lower at the front mount and the front inner fender well is smashing the steering box and hoses. kinked one of them:doah: is there a difference between the 72 body and 70 frame that I don't know about...?? I put the mounts all in the way the link before said... im not sure what else to do with it. the other thing that seems weird is that all the mounts are touching good and seem right except the one right under the step in the floor pan. it has like a 1/8"-1/4" of room above it. pic doesn't show it well

You may need to shim according to the factory assembly manual and how your doors fit. On mine, at some point, the PO cut the inner fender a little to fit the lines of the steering box. Did you have a body lift before and that's why there was no need for inn fender massaging? Maybe someone else will have more advice on putting it back together and having the lines fit.

There tend to be 1/8"-1/4" of shims at the front and back of the doors so that part is normal.

The inner fender shouldn't crunch the steering box lines. It's super tight, but you have to insert the inner fender well in a weird way to get it up over the lines before it sits back down.

That very front mount uses the thicker rubber bushings that come with the kit. They are about 1" thick in just that one location.

yeah I have the thicker ones in the front but they don't seem NEAR thick enough. from my little messing around with it, it seems like the fronts need to be at least 1/2"- 3/4" thicker and that middle one 1/4"-1/2".

it did have a body lift before. but with stock sized mounts I should not be mashing the steering box... its currently pushing up on the fender. not just touching it.

Mine had the thicker bushings in the front and under the floor spots. Then the front had I'd say quarter inch washers above and below the bushing to raise it a little.

Actually your right, there's a fatter one under the gas pedal area too, different diameter though.

only fat one i have is under the gas pedal. all others were the thin ones. then i have a smaller diameter fat set for the core support.

The ones on my core support were about two inches thick and the ones under the front floor were about a inch and a half. Back 4 were only one inch thick at the floor. Different shape as well. Rears were flat and front four were more cylinder shaped.

made major progress today:waytogo: most little things all hooked up. all body shims and things in. gonna tighten it all down tomorrow and break the doors free of my braces and see how we did. got a LOT of the spring stuff final tightened too.

few pics of how I lifted it, and one crappy cell pic from this afternoon

had to take a detour from this due to an emergency roof job for my cousin. we'll be back on it in the next day or so.

Here's a big issue I ran into. The drivers spring top plate is bending at the ear for u bolt. 3 of the nuts torqued down to 140 but that back one wont click and keeps bending. I don't think I can use these:doah: probably have to make some.
