Do it Greg! I could get a freakin PhD in Blazer knowledge working with/watching you. Spare bedroom is yours, help yourself to the shop and everything in it.
Ekajkrats, I'm just going to rebuild the stock engine (350). Going with a carb (likely a 650 CFM), mild cam with a little bit of rumble ("RV Cam" is what I hear them called, one with low end torque). The engine looks really clean, so I don't think it's been that long since it was rebuilt. Basically I am just going to get it cleaned and magnafluxed (to be safe), honed, valve job on the heads (unless it needs new springs), and replace all the basics (bearings, pistons/rings, oil pump, timing chain, lifters, and all the 'externals' like water pump, starter, fuel pump, etc.). But even at that modest refresh, when you add intake manifold and carb and other little incidentals, your in the $2000-$2500 range. I've spoke to three different machine shops, and the prices have not varied much. It'll be a bit before I drop that kinda cash. I wanna see if the "reorg" at work is done. Poor bastards who got let go were replaced by technology, I really feel bad for them. I manage people......."It's the people dammit, I'm good with the people!"(for those who get the reference). Joking aside, I manage people & accounts (high maintenance customers in the Pharma world) and PM a lot of projects, things I don't think you can replace with a computer, but, I am still the new guy as I started in January. I figure, you never know, so it's a good time to build up a good cash reserve. It's all good. I signed up for (and got the company to fund) a class towards another professional certification (PMP) and have that exam scheduled for March (it's a bitch of a test these days). So it's actually a good time for a slow down, I'll be spending many many many hours studying all of the stuff the prep class company sent me (class is in February, but I plan to use that as a Capstone and be ready immediately afterwards).
Yeah, turnaround was funny. I kept telling him, "No hurry man, it's all good. Take your time." But he's doing solid work at really good prices, and targeting the builder world, so he's got a lot of work lined up. He wanted my shit outta the way. Hell, when I picked it up he was working on a 'classic' Ferrari and was showing me pictures of cars he had coming up. I got lucky, and the dude's shop is 4 miles from my house! A very lucky find indeed.
Oh well, time to get my studying on!
