'72 K5 - Where do I go from here?

For anyone attempting a first time NP205 rebuild - go ahead and buy, make (grind down others), or borrow a thin-walled 1 5/16" & a thin-walled 1 1/8" socket. Speedo gear and yoke stopped me dead in my tracks. Ran to Napa - 10 minutes late, closed. All of the large sockets I have Tekton and HF are too thick. I found both sockets on Amazon, free shipping with Prime, $35 for both. I'll have them Tuesday. What day.......time to switch to Silver Bullet.
 
Well, it's damn sure at Parade Rest. When I got done I looked over at my phone (camera) and went, "Doh." I forgot to take pics. Reassembly should be fun!
Whatever - no hurry. This is my classroom......

Transfer case - done. Just gotta put on the yokes and the adapter, which I did not paint yet, finish that next weekend. Tomorrow I gotta do that 'Hallmark Bullshit' with the wife and kid.

Feels good, transfer case scared the Obama out of me, but it was not nearly as bad as I expected. Would not hesitate to do another.

Nothing brilliant, but it works. I cut a hose clamp to get 'lift' from the damageable parts of the seals you have to install 'backwards' on the NP205-TH350 adapter. In case anyone else runs into this.......

I was just worried it was too short (excuse my ignorance). I had about 30 seconds to mock it up last night before we had to go to a Muslim Appreciation diversity event (AKA: Pig Roast). I read a little (on here) this morning and I did read about 'sliding it out.' I don't see how you can with the dust cover on....sure, maybe an inch or so, but I'm 3.25" too short. The rear is only about 1" short. I'm lost......as usual.
 
How about that - It extends! I assume that as long as all of the splines are still in, I'm good? Time to clean that thing, put in some new grease, etc.

Cool. Glad it worked out so easily. Way nicer than if it had been too short.

It's worth checking the driveshaft when the wheels are fully up and fully down to make sure that (1) it doesn't become a 2-piece driveshaft when fully extended, and that (2) it doesn't bottom out when the pumpkin comes fully up. Neither one makes for happy truck.
