ok all done!

First off let me say that anyone intimidated by the 2wd sector shaft swap needs to not worry. It was such a peice of cake i dont even know why it is an issue... Old one comes out with the 4 bolts loose with the top cap, new one goes in. Then adjust the allen and its all good.

So initially i got a 2wd box from the j yard from a 74. got ready to do the swap and found out my box had been changed to a newer one.... Doh. So i tackled the sector shaft swap blindly and it went perfect.

so here is the parts list.

Stock 80s blazer tie rod with both ends on it.
eg. ES2233LM and EX2234R

you take the ES2233LM and have the hole that used to be for the steering stabilizer reamed for a TRE.

then you need a lh thread tie rod end to replace it since this will be your new draglink.
EX2234L works for this or you could use a drag link end.

Now for a pittman arm i got one off of a xj and had it reamed for a TRE since the stock hole is too small. The xj arm is simular to superlift 1104. and has 4 flats so it can be indexed for push pull or x over setups.

I took my stock 80s tierod to the shop and bent it up. One right after the threads on the pittman arm side, then 18inches down back to parallell.

Overall cost.
all junkyard finds
Pittman arm $5
2wd box $10
stock 80s tierod with both Tie rod ends $10
cost for WFO to ream pittman and EX2234L TRE $30
Total= $55 bucks

The stock 80s tierod had to be shortened i think around 6 inches. Beveled both sides on the cut and used a peice of 4inch long 3/4 solid in the center of it then burned it in.

It looks clean. Please report on how you like it.

well just went out and flexed it! Just driving it feels alot better, no more massive bumpsteer, and it turns easier.

Flexing it showed i definatley need to make some brackets and hook up front bumpstops. It hits the pitman arm the way it is now.... but i have too much uptravel so changing that around will help anyways. My fenders dont enjoy my uptravel.

If it works it works, but personally I would of stepped up to a bigger drag link size. I would not run it, but I have seen some jeep guys do it successful.

Pretty much a jeep setup, it's how my wagoneer stock setup is, and it works.

Jeep and Ford got the steering right on their solid axle 4x4s for some reason. So how come they need a Chevy drivetrain in them to be reliable?:D

Well there is nothing wrong with a AMC V8 or a ford V8.
For me it's a preference, I like GM running gear and I have plenty off them, that is why I am putting all GM running gear in my Jeep wagoneer, even though I have a rebuilt 360 in it.
I broke the th400 tranny in it and it's the AMC bellhousing case, I have enough GM th400's laying around and plenty of axles, tcases engines, etc.. so it makes sense.:dunno:
I did learn from some of the jeep things to adapt to my setup though.

I'm doin' the crossover like Chris did....
I think it's a great idea... :D
There is one problem with this setup though, even though he bent the drag link, it still geometrically at an angle so it will have bump steer, and the fact that it's close to the springs it sometimes will hit the springs, but for a cheap junk yard build, it will do.
It's how I built all my trucks so far: junk yard parts.

Just read this entire thread for the first time. I do enjoy the use of junkyard parts.

got all my stuff today

went to my favorite place today...the junkyard got myself a 2wd steering box, an xj shaft, and most of the parts to do the cross over.

but i managed to lose a snapon prybar:doah: and i forgot the xj pitman arm. but im almost there.

I figured it was going to come to this. The best place to get one is off a CUCV surplus truck. They already have 4.56 gears and they were well maintained. All you'll probably have to do is change the brake line fittings.

How bad did you break it?

lol eveyone assumes i broke!

nah just got paid out at work for the sick time i didnt use so have a wad of cash. Need to find a 60 before i spend it on other stuff!
