Rent one, your back (and your friends) will thank you. :waytogo:

That's what I did the few times I was swapping or transporting one ton diffs. Hell even 1/2 ton diff's can be a bear! The rental used to cost me about $28 for the day.

I was swapping 1/2 ton axles for 3/4 ton axles in my buddies 1985 K10, and he was helping me unload the axles and other random parts. I had grabbed the rear 10 bolt (minus axle shafts, and brakes) and was hauling it off. He asked me how to move the front (complete) 10 bolt axle. I was joking and said: "just grab it you pussy". I'll be damned but he thought I was serious and did. I knew he was strong, but was impressed by him carrying that heavy awkward bastard.

I used a cherry picker at chevysmiths house when i picked up my one tons and then again at my house when i unloaded em. Im not sure how else you would do it, At approx 600 pounds a piece and as akward as they are i cant imagine any other way to do it. The dana 60 ended up fallin on my dad because i had to drop the cherry pickers front wheels into a rock pit to bring it down to its resting place and he was in such a rush he just pulled it towards himself like an idiot despite my warnings :doah:. Between the 2 of us and a hell of alot of adrenaline we lifted the 600 pound monster off him and he got away with a bruise. But As they say if your gonna be stupid you better be tough :haha:

Got it out of my truck with roid power, and my come-along attached to my rollcage.

This thing is sooooooo freaky greasy. Almost all over covered in 1/8 to 1/4 in thick greasy grime. Been at it with hose, brushes, and purple power. Found out that Purple power is Caustic when it started eating the skin off my hands..... so i stopped lol.

I eventually ran into a great deal on a new hoist on CL a guy had bought for a project, then he ran into money issues, sold the project and sold the hoist (and engine stand) to me for a good deal less than new price. They were still in boxes and had never even been assembled.

Well I am getting old.
I used to put a D60 by myself in a lifted truck, I had trouble with the help of Chris to get it in but we did.
By the way we lifted it off the ground into a lifted truck not like that other poster who had trouble lifting it 4 inches from the back of theother pickup to his blazer:whistle:
That thing was about 4 feet high.:doah:

Oh and chris, that axle came from under a diesel truck :D

You should get a cherry picker Chris, I didn't have one till last year and I kick myself for not getting one sooner. Craigslist is where I got mine, with a new ram for 40 bux from some tweaker that needed cash, go figure. Oh and since mine doesn't fold up, no one wants to borrow it, its great.

I should invest in one.... I will have to start browsing CL for them. I know if i had one i would find uses for it for sure,

Started teardown/inspection today after work. Thing looks AWESOME! Looks like hubs are in great shape, no galling on spindle, nice and smooth. Bearings look brand new. Gears look good, and kingpins have no pitting. I cant get this damn stud off the driver knuckle though... it is pissing me off. It is siezed to the steering arm. Tried double nutting and it just backs off the top nut. So i may be giving up on that for now and hoping it looks as good as the other side.

Also got all that damn grease off.

A while back there was someone who posted an "easy" way they had found to get those studs out of the knuckle without tearing anything up, but I can't remember what all it involved, but the guy claimed he could get them out really easily. You might find it through a search of these forums or start a thread asking what to do.

You need to go ahead and get you a cherry picker because I know that the next thing you are going to want to do is take the engine out and start messing with it to make it more capable of pushing the extra weight of that D60 and the larger tires that you're inevitably going to put on there soon.

Messed with it more and said screw it. Will leave it as is and take my chances.

Should be picking these guys up thurs night.

39.5x15x15 Super Swampers for $350

80% tread with a brand new tire for the spare. All on 15x10 wheels. So gotta do some :grind: on my calipers.... but now i can air down without as much worry as those stupid 16.5s

There was another deal floating around for 42's..... but for now that is too big for me. These guys should look right at home with a little more cuttin :waytogo:

Oh yeah they are bias ply. Anyone have road experience on Bias tires? I guess the main complaint was that they need to warm up to get the flat spots out?

The bias TSL's ride rough, aren't terribly round, and flat spot overnight. I DD'd a set of 39.5's on my Jimmy for 4 years.

I loved them offroad.

sounds awesome :woot:

Looks like i will enjoy the 5 miles to work every morning while they warm up as i pull in the parking lot haha

I have those exact tsls on the front of my blazer and they do flat spot over night and one of my has a bad imbalance shakes the truck pretty bad at hwy speeds.

You'll love the 39.5's offroad

I can't complain to terribly much about them on the road, they definitely aren't great though.

I am glad it's a clean specimen.
I shouldn't have sold it but the house comes first, I can always find another crew cab.:D

Just got done wrestling that beast in there. Took me about 3hrs to pull the d44 out and shove the d60 in and button it all up.

Found out that my stainless brake lines will not work :doah:

Passs side u bolt is too short so gotta run to wfo tommorow to get one that is longer.

Also have to go grab some gear oil and stick the cover back on

Dude flaked that was selling me the crossover arm... so now i have to rig the push pull... gotta cut the threads off a couple draglink ends and use the coupler to run for now. Its gonna suck on a non raised arm... but o well for now.

It was pretty easy to roll it under my rig with the tires on though. And DAMN does it trump the d44.. makes it look like a puny worthless pile. :haha:
