73 K20....crossmember time

Yep im already there. i was going to talk to dremu about his tbi setup. Maybe i can get one from the junkyard.

I have a tbi 350 in a '90 c10 just sitting. Was going to put it in my 77 K5 but now I have the Diesel Burb so.... yeah. I could be persuaded to let it go. Everything is there, was a running driving truck till some switch in the ignition went out and its waiting to be put back together. I have the parts to make it turn over, just haven't done so.

Awesome build, spent 2 days readin it at work!!

What does the 465-205/203 do to drivines on a blazer??

Hey thanks! Shes getting there! I have a lot of new things to add still!

Thanks! im thinking of doing some carb work first but ill keep you in mind if I go that route.

shorten the rear shaft, retube/extend the front shaft

Yup. id have to have a slip in the rear added too. id make the front shaft since it isnt critical.

So here is the damage from the rubicon trip...

Not really from the trail but i noticed due to the lack of support in the front fenders it buckled in from flexing. Not a big deal just something that changed with wheeling.

Heres the driver side. Im pretty confident i can get the big dent in the quarter panel out. Ive done it before.

Just took the paint off

I was just going to paint this before the trip lol

Passenger side

Im going to try my best to fix this but it really needs a wrap around bumper...

I can get this out no problem with the inflating football trick

Not too bad as far as sheetmetal damage goes. Some could have been avoided but most was due to not being able to get away from a rock after a slide.

As far as mechanical issues go i noticed the crossmember and transfer case loosened up, the tranny mounts are shot, the stock rear shock mounts on the axle are bent, my rear 56's are S shaped, the stock Y pipe is nearly flattened, leaking front axle seals/diff cover and probably some more stuff i havent noticed yet. The truck did great though for its first "real" test. All this stuff is sort of expected until i get the bugs worked out.

I had some carb trouble on the trail so i pulled it off last night for a rebuild. Ill save Tbi for another day.

My next mods to make it more reliable/fun to drive on the trail are:

inboard rear shock setup
sliders
dual electric fans
re-seal/possible rebuild of the tcase
relocate the battery/coolant overflow
possibly AC delete
truck box for tools and stuffs

I know i could use to be re-geared, different tranny and so on but i want to get back out on the trail and save some things for a winter rebuild.

In the winter id like to convert to manual, add a doubler, re-gear, make more power, extend/finish the cage.

All of this is subject to change if my tranny takes a dump on me lol :haha:

Manual is the way to go! You'll love it, the low first is awesome. I have a set of those tail light trim pieces if you want them

Yeah it definitely is. Its worth it not worrying about over heating an auto. Im keeping my eye out for a cheap one i can rebuild or freshen up. I think those trim pieces will come off again lol.

Did you say you had a regular tailgate like the one thats on your truck? I want that...

So heres my parts list for the hydro assist setup. It was really easy to setup and maybe took about 4 hours from start to finish. I got the system bled in about 15 minutes so if anyone wants to know how to go about that so you dont spend all day bleeding let me know.

For my setup i really didnt want to cut off the swivel eye so i found a comprimise to weld it at a slight angle on the axle tube. Works killer!

All parts are from surplus center

Heres the heatsink i used:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-331000/overview/

It goes on the return side between the steering box and pump. Its a must have and its a true thru and thru not just a open area inside of it!

I got my end cap from DIY4X which was a nice piece. Drilled and tapped sector shaft cap. I did it with the box still on the frame :haha:

The end cap hose goes to the fixed side of the ram and the sector cap hose goes to the moving side of the ram....on a passenger drop axle.

Any questions just ask!

Funny you say that......

Finishing mine this weekend hopefully, then a fresh coat of orange:woot:

I hope to see some insta pics!

do you have a picture of the axle side mount for your ram? I need to get my setup on one of these days.

Yeah ill post pics up!

I used these tabs to weld to the axle housing:

And these tabs for my clamp i made:

Awesome build, I probably missed it some where but about how much lift did you end up with? Looks like about 5" all the way around.

Hey thanks! Id say its rough 5-6 with no body lift. The front are 47" lift springs. I think there maybe rancho 3 inch lift? Rears are 56's with a shackle flip. Both axles use ez inch blocks. 1.5" in the furthest direction. Its sitting a little low in the rear because i over flexed the springs in the back. New springs will fix that.

Heres my setup. I could do some measurments if people want the exact tab location. I fiddled around with getting it to line up right so the righ hand fitting didnt hit the tie rod bar.

You can see here the area i took paint off to weld the tabs. The tabs are .25" from being up against the housing.

Ran into a small interference at the end of the passenger side stroke. Ill machine the diff cover to accept the tie rod but if you dont have that capability then you should run offset tie rod ends. Ruffstuff carries them.

My pics arent as good as i remember so i can add some that are closer up when i get home.
