That's the way the 57 is. We ran the gaskets on each side of the plate as noted previously.

you might want to break the motor (or camshaft) in with a carb so you aren't tuning during break in.
though I can't remember if you have a new short block or cam, just thinking out loud, I broke mine in with a carb then switched to the FAST

My magic setting is.... millermatic autoset 14 gauge.

Haha yeah. total pia. I even tried to see if I could get away with duals again and didn't like it.
Eric and I have the same Hobart, that's why I asked.
Your hobarts have autoset don't they? I know we discussed this before but I can't remember? Mine works pretty good for thin stuff but you have to take a deep breath and then move fast. Not too fast though.

I use Argon and solid wire on pipe. Usually #2 heat, 40ish % on wire speed
I cheat and just do a series of tac welds. Part of my issue is I have to use .035 wire because we never weld thin gage steel at the sign shop so we don't have the parts to run thinner wire. But the tac method has held up just fine.
Thicker wire works better IMHO. Our welder at work has .035 and I always have to weld stupid thin stuff
I usually run the weld a little hotter because the exhaust pipe is aluminized. We use 100% argon for mig welding aluminum, I should try that sometime just to see how it does with exhaust.
No autoset on this machine. I tac'd it on 120 volt but I wasn't too happy with that setting. I'll try 240v with the 0.030 I have in it.
One thing I've done is tac tac tac in a few places around the pipe 1/2" apart or maybe a little further and then play connect the tacs.
