lol :D

why, first come first serve kinda deal?

Yeah exactly. Hate when that happens but its a smokin deal. The 203 is worth the drive if its all there. He doesn't seem too knowledgeable about some of the stuff so maybe ill get a deal. Id really like to snatch the 205 but its not worth it if it doesnt have 32 splines for a 465.

if it's a 32 spline def get it. Hell, even if it's not you can flip it for a quick buck.

Do It!!!!!!

nice trip E, I've only farted around offroad wise since Rubicon and took it to that Brother's truck show with SBD. Haven't even messed with it :(

I know how it goes!!

I have a bunch of stuff to do to the truck soon. im sort of in the collecting parts mode right now. Are you still going to moab?

After assembling all the parts, and sort of like you having the ability to machine my own doubler plate, I regret going the 203 route. Do the 241-205. The only difference for you technically will be sourcing a 241 with a 32 spline input, which is more common than a 32 spline 203 anymore, and their different and stronger main shaft. You get 2 different low range options, the 205s low is great for mud and the like with the 5.13/38 combo, even keeping the auto which actually is perfect gearing for that tranny, and the 241s low, which would be great for your faster moving trail rides, then them combined, which is way lower than the 203-205, for your technical trails. Its a way lighter, way more functional, and since you have the ability to machine your own plate, roughly the same work.

You know that 32 spline SM465/NP205 combos are really rare, right? Only used in 1985-1986 K30's, and 1987-1991 V30's. The majority of SM465/NP205's (all trucks 1973-1980, and 1981-1984 K30's) are 10 spline combos with a power coupler.

Right. I'm still highly confused on what I got still. I havent done very much research on 205s and 203s but I know I got a screaming deal. the guy who had it said it was going to be a doubler so he made sure to get the correct splines. ill post up what I got here today. So far all I know is I got a 205, 203 and a 14 bolt with disc brakes for $300.

Thats an older 10 spline coupled setup for the 205. So that one will require an input for the doubler The case has to be machined for this as well but it does have a fixed rear yoke though, which is nice.

The 203 will also have to have its input changed to a 32 spline. And that shaft gets thrown away when you do a doubler. ORD or someone sells intermediate shafts.

This is why I recommend you atleast look into the 241-205. Because at the very least you are going to have to buy 2 different 32 spline inputs, and an intermediate shaft. Not counting the doubler plate itself.

Ive been looking into this. it appears the 205 figure 8 set up wouldnt work.

I may make a doubler thread to see what others have done.

There are companies that make doubler plates for fig 8 205s. Its the input they are more concerned with, so most require you to run the 32 short spline 205 input, and a 32 spline front transfer case. Be it the 203 or the 241.

Right. From what I read 32 is the strongest. it appears I can make a few bucks from selling the shafts I have for other people doing automatics.

I guess the advantage of 241 would be 4 gears instead of 3? some weight difference too but I wonder if it's as strong as 203.
