73 K20....crossmember time

I did 63s out back initially and shortened the frame both in the middle and eliminated all the excess off the back. If you do that it's rarely an issue

Dropped the tanks tonight. Excited to get the ball rolling here. I need to order some metal for the for the frame for when I cut it down. Also need to pick up a steering box kit.

Welded some of the rivets/crossmembers im going to keep. Itll help keep things straight when I chop the frame as well.

Im thinking I should get rid of this small lower brace....must have been for a spare tire? Seems useless.

Im almost read to cut the frame. Im probably going to cut between the two screwdrivers here. Get rid of some holes by cutting there.

This hump for the fuel crossover...has anyone kept this or should I get rid of it?

I kept everything till I cut the frame. Pretty much cut it exactly where you are doing it.

After the fact I did not keep a single factory crossmember

Thanks blazinzuk. I'm almost ready to cut!

Yeah I'm going to keep that little crossmember. Didn't realize it ties into the body mounts.

I'll probably keep the crossmembers I welded on. Everything else will go. There's none in the front so that makes it easy!

I think that little crossmember is for the spare. The bed sits on the frame rails and bolts through the oval holes like the one just above the little crossmember, you can see the wear from the bed brace running across. I think

And if you can take that amount of frame out from under the cab, it would be stronger. But then again, fishplate and boxing around the cut area would make it stronger than stock too.

Because he wants me to drive a bus. lol. Watching longbeds wheel out here is too painful! Thats one of a few reasons you never see rockbouncers...too long and most of the trails were created or are maintained for jeeps.

Ok i think ill scrap the little one. I plan on doing some stout fishplating of the frame where itll get cut. Ordered metal for that last night. I should probably box the whole thing. I may do it, priorites are to cut the frame down and then get this thing on axles so itll roll around.

Zak how much for that bumper lol?

Kind of partial to Orange. I will tell ya on either if those colors throw down a white primer or white paint before ya spray em.
I'm thinking about switching up my Orange to a different one cause krylon pumpkin Orange I can't find in quarts or gallons

ok good to know. The orange is a kubota orange tractor paint. I was going to try to find that around here but theres too many tofu farting fairies for tractor supply stores. I think i can still get paint into this state.
