73 K20....crossmember time

Fire it up already!

Yeah!!! OR ELSE!!!
:draw:

It's close! Between my shithole job, applying and taking tests for jobs, plus taking 3 night classes I'm making a little headway lol.

I'm closer then last week lol!

I think firing it up will put wind in my sails. Once it's broken in and running nice I'll be able to focus on the brakes and making her go into gear. I think I'm just going to rattlecan the damn thing for now. I do have a plan for paint at some point. It'd be really nice to make it to koh this coming year. It's definitely possible but I'm not holding my breath.

I figure if I can get it running and driving by December that's a green light.

I'm pretty sure that's our second motto to MAW... lol

Just one more little part...ooo I should just do this small upgrade...oh it seems like I'll need a few parts to do it right...next thing you know you're well over the free shipping quota of summit. Hell I don't think I've paid shipping once with them lol.

is your fuel system ran, tank mounted, pump wired?

Tank is temporarily mounted for break in.

Fuel lines are done though. I still need a wiring harness so nothing has been done in that area.

I just gapped the spark plugs and I'm reading up on how to put the distributor in per the instructions.

I'd like to grind the frame to get the passenger header on today if I can.

Ok so clearly I have my water neck directly aimed at the damn fitting that's supposed to be the coolant temp sensor. Yay.

I tried my electric fan sensor as well and it's a no go. So that said I think I can just plug that side...this means I need to come up with a solution for the other side.

The waterpump sensor hole is where I run my fan sensor...I obviously need another coolant temp sensor for the efi so I can easily use the heater hose side...that means I need to either come up with a Tee of sorts or something different. I don't know if I'll have room to put a Tee in...I was thinking more of a Y shaped fitting but I can't find anything. I guess I could use the passenger side of the block to hook the heater up to?

I use the driver side for my coolant temp gauge in the truck...

Why would you want to mount your fuel tank more than once? :dunno:

My suggestion is to drill and tap the spot just to the passenger side of the thermostat housing. That's where the factory one goes anyway. If that is an aluminum intake, it's easy. Just use a good amount of lube. Since you don't have the coolant in yet, you can pull the thermostat to make sure you get all of the shavings.

Small update. Im in the middle of the full float swap right now which includes zero rates, 56s, disc brake swap and a shackle flip. Hopefully ill be finished by this weekend.

Got all my brake parts in early this week. Earl makes some pretty nice lines!

K20 front calipers. They were loaded except pads for $35 a piece.

I cut off all the old stuff off my 14 bolt...spring perches and what not.

Primered it up

Slapped paint on it but after it dried you can see theres still a layer of road grime on it. The axle will come back out in few weeks so i said to hell with it. The 56's need to be cleaned up as well but thats happening soon. I used the DIY4x zero rates as opposed to Ez inches and i was a little upset they didnt come with center pins or bolts. Just means i had to source it somewhere else instead of being included like ORD's

After sawzalling the hard brake line off from rounding over the fittings...i was on my way. I didnt even need a socket to get the u bolt nuts off. They were finger tight at most so id say it was a good time to swap all this old stuff out.

Next i tried to get the leaf spring pivot bolts out which ive mentioned was pure hell so lets just show the damage instead...

This also came in so i need to hurry up and order my ram

Where did you get those calipers from? They came zinc plated like that or is that gold spray paint?

They're from autozone...73 k20 front calipers if I remember right. They were plated like that right out of the box. So far they hold up great!

Thanksfor the info man! Hopefully they still plate them.

You wouldn't happen to have the Autozone P/N would you, everything I've seen from them is bare metal or so it looks.

I vote drill and tap as @6872xturd stated

Bahumbug!

She's on for good now. With my luck I'd lose some chips to cylinders.

I think I can use the port in the passenger cylinder head...

Fan switch? FiTech will control your fans with the coolant sensor. No need for a fan switch.

Yeah I was thinking about keeping them separate. I have a controller for the fan already and have that all wired up from last time.

I guess if the controller went south I could run the fitech as a backup.

Haven't had any issues with them yet?

Nope they are awesome. I wish I had an excellent brake...especially with a manual trans now but I think I'll manage.

Thanksfor the info man! Hopefully they still plate them.

No problem! I would think so. I saw on pirate recently someone had the same ones and they were zinc.

I could get it for you in about an hour when I get back to the garage...
