73 k5 blank slate

I was thinking that’s what you were having to do. Like you said mine sat outside for 2 years just gathering patina...little water & vinegar & good to go. Lol

How much sand blasting you got left...are you having any issues with surface rust showing back up or priming as you go?
i'm pretty much done except for a couple of areas underneath that i could'nt get to before it started raining again. everything i've sandblasted has been primed

Starting a little side build while I wait for the tub. A 76 honda z50 for my brother's grandson. I bought 6 of them on ebay after a bad experience with a Chinese go-kart back when the kids were little. Only 2 ran. Restored 3 for the kids, gave one to a friend, sold one(it was supposedly a "rare one") and this is the last of the bunch. They are very fun and easy to wrench on

That's the engine all the chinese bikes cloned. Probably way better quality. I've done several chinese bikes and atvs and they are throwaway junk but since I do all my own fixing I run them til they are too far gone. Soon I am hoping to move my kids into Hondas as they get bigger.

yeah, it was a wiring issue with the gokart that neither me or my friend who runs a small engine repair shop could figure out. replaced a few parts, got frustrated and donated it to the votech school. i wish i had that to do over again because i think the ck5'ers on this site could have figured out that problem in no time. if not i could have bolted in a honda ct 70 motor and ditched the crazy chinese wiring harness with the remote start relays and safety switches. oh well, i think the kids liked the bikes better anyway

Yeah I've bought one or two with wiring issues. LOL. Got one from my brother in law now that he got with no key so he bought an ignition and still couldn't get it to work so he moved on to another nicer bike he had. I started into it and found the new key switch was pinned differently so it would not work. I moved the wires to the correct places and now it works. Needs other stuff too still. The wiring on these Chinese bikes is total garbage. Cheapest crap ever. I just bypass the remote kill and all that jazz usually. If I can find a schematic to go off of then I can usually figure out anything when it comes to electrical.

i'm still completely intimidated with all things electrical and kind of dreading that part of my blazer build but it has to be done and i'm looking forward to the learning part. i'm gonna need lots of help from yall in the not to distant future:D

Just saw this build. Looks pretty decent. Why did you choose to go with 3.08 gears?

Also there were no 350's available in an '84 Camaro, so I would assume your block is out of something else.

Thanks. The ck5 brotherhood has held my hand the whole way,, haha. I figured the original gear ratio would be good enough for cruising flat country roads on 33s with the extra torque of a 383 and give me better highway rpms. I ran the block number on the internet to try to determine where it came from and I guess I got bad info

well, unfortunately no good update on this build which has kind of hit a fork in the road. when i checked in on the progress at the body shop, the owner tells me his restoration guy has quit and he has nobody that he can put on this job at present. he has had trouble just keeping the guys he has with all the recent incentives not to work. he referred me to another shop in town which has a one year waiting list. i'm kind of irritated with myself for not seeing this coming and i guess i was naive to think i could get someone else to do this but i've known the shop owner for a long time and we've been talking about this plan since i started this project. anyway, i'm going to go get the tub next week and bring it back to my shop. in the meantime im going to start watching all the rust repair videos i can find. if anybody has any good links to builds on this site that have done quarters, rockers, floorpans etc, i'm all ears. the firewall has me a little concerned because i'm not sure there are patch panels for that. i'm going to have to pull out the chassis and mothball that under the polebarn next to the boat for now. i think i also need a bigger shop to support what this project is turning into so i'm looking at finding someone to give me estimates there as well. anyway, i'm too far into this to stop now:1zhelp: thanks for everybody's help up the this point and beyond in advance
