'73 K5 - Stevoandaredk5's Build - [Pre-Summer Update - (4/5/11)]

I have painted a couple vehicles with the same paint. A gallon seems like alot. The stuff hides really really well. You have to thin it quite a bit for a good spray pattern to come out of that gun. You most likely have a 1.4 needle in it. Also that paint take along time to actually harden fully and not scratch as easy. Good luck.

yeah i wish now that i hadn't bought so much, but you live and learn. Single coat took about 20oz of paint. I thinned it 15% with acetone as per the instructions on the can. Here's some pics of the paint, haven't taken any with all the trim and such put back on. Thanks!

Looks kinda familular to when I did mine!!!! Course body shop did the paint on mine. How many coats are you going to do. Just a thought since you have all that extra paint, multiple coats, possible wet sand and buff for smoother finish. Looks good all one color, know your pleased about that. Red black combo was good choice but I am biased!

I am just going to leave it as a single coat. I'm leaving for Austin on Friday (starting college at the University of Texas:D), and it will be staying here in Lufkin. I have the stuff to wetsand/etc, but no time. And to be honest I don't really care enough about it to put in all that effort. I'll buy the aerosol version of the same exact paint and use that for touch ups. Like your truck btw.:D

Cool, I feel you on the time issue. Always something to do except whacha wanna do! Thanks for the comp on my rig, only problem is I need another one to wheel! Its too nice to wheel but that was my intent. I got about 12K in it and have not done the motor. Maybe I can talk my dad out of his 86 K10SB and wheel it, hmmmm. Good luck at UT.

Well this message is coming to you from Austin. I move into the dorm tomorrow. Per the parentals, the truck is staying in Lufkin. but not for long if i can get it "ready" to drive up here.

lucky find on that 71, that is a perfect restoration canidate. please don't chop it up, I wish I could find trucks like that in the North East

yeah me and my dad are going to get it as close to original as we can without going overboard. Repaint it that olive color, but go with a black top and black interior.

btw i was back in town saturday, we went over to the shop to take a look at the motor, and with 6 of the plugs out (Blackjack headers prevented one on each side) I could grab the harmonic dampener and turn the motor by hand. Felt like it was getting good compression on the two cylinders that were still sealed up.

Problem is the electrical stuff is shot. Put a hot battery in and turn the key, nothing. It's all dead. Just when i thought I might not have to deal with wiring for a while after rewiring the '73....oh well. at least i know what i'm doing now :D

I just noticed that I never put up pictures of the truck with all the trim reinstalled and the hardtop on, so here you guys go:

Looks good man! Are you gonna paint those sliders black??

yeah, I'll do that when i finish herculining the floor. I'm tempted to hit most of that metalwork with POR-15 and then top coat it with that black rustoleum...don't know if that would work or not though.
