'73 K5 - Stevoandaredk5's Build - [Pre-Summer Update - (4/5/11)]

Basically, I have run into the classic CK5 problem, at one moment I have lots of time and no money or parts, the next minute I have money and parts but no time...what a terrible cycle.:haha:

(My apologies for the lack of useful content in this post, I'm pretty bored at work...:doah:)

Hence the reason my seven three build has taken SOOOOOO long too .

well friday morning I stopped by the tire place and checked if they had the tires I want....and they did:D so the truck is on blocks since it's still not roadworthy, but I pick up the new 35's tomorrow morning. I'm stoked! pics will follow:wink1:

oh and while I was in Nac yesterday, I saw this sweet full vert and thought I would share:rolleyes:

I still know of that complete 10-bolt front up here in Sherman that was pulled off a running/driving '87 Suburban that the owner was trying to sell for $50 but noone showed interest. "Pinnick85" is his screenname on Texas4x4.org

I also know of a 6-lug Dana44 from a mid-70's K5 that is down in waxahachie. The differential has been exposed to the elements and is rusted, but the outers should be fine. I'm sure the whole thing could be had for cheap as well. I was going to trade for it to get the flattop knuckles off of it but plans changed. I can ask the owner how much he wants for it

pic-whore us to death when you get the tires mounted up!

looks nice! looks like your trim job is clean and they fit real well. good work! :waytogo: that's a real sharp tire/wheel combo too. ;)

heres a few more from my antics this morning:D

Edit: sorry for the sidewaysness, I'm taking these with my cell phone and always forget to turn em the right way

better cut out those fenders some more. you've got alot more flex in that suspension than you're working with!

I agree, those are gonna leave some nasty fender strawberrys when you get to play'n. Just another way to rubber coat the inner fenders!!!!!! Good work so far, been keeping up with your build.

yeah, i already knew it was gonna need some more room on the fenders. This rig is 80% or more on the street, and there ain't a whole lot of places to flex out around here that I know of. I'm just trying to get back on the road. I'm gonna do some more testing and see what all will have to be massaged out of the way, but for the moment, i'm content. thanks for the input guys

might consider doing a set of zero rates. cheap, effective and safe 1" lift. that'd look real nice too.

don't forget that you'd need new u-bolts, as they're a one time use thing. thus, it factors into your cost.

yeah, and these are the original 35+ year old ones so they definitely will go haha.

I'm starting a list:

Zero rates
new ubolts
steering box brace

possibly a swaybar correct/disconnect and new bushings and some SS brake lines

just lose the sway bar altogether. with leaf springs up front, you've got plenty of rigidity. it'll make your ride more comfy, your rig more capable and it'll save you some money. w/ 4 lift springs on mine, i didn't even notice it was gone.
