were you able to use the base & sliders off your stock seats and they bolt right up to the new ones?

the seats that have been in this truck while i've had it are from a 90's Ford(:doah:) fullsize van. My dad put em in. When I ordered these seats, the company also had universal mounting kits that included the bases, sliders, mounting plates, and all the hardware except what bolts it to the floor. We popped new holes in the floor, and ran 3/8" grade 8 bolts through with big flat fender washers underneath the sheetmetal. Front legs sit on an 18" piece of 0.125" wall 2" square tube.

How did you mount your harnesses? Did you bolt them to the floor behind you or is there something else?

I used the factory mounting bolts and holes. The lap belt portion is in the stock position, and the retractable part is bolted down with the front mount of the rear seat. I had to drill out the frame of the retractable piece ever so slightly so the 1/2" bolt would fit down through it hahaha. I can get pics if you need em. Lemme know.

Niiiiiiice

Good things you installed the sliders. Thats a bit close to the wheel for me!

Been a while since I checked this thread. Looking good, nice work on the seats.

Thanks!:D

Yeah. I'm a skinny short kid so it's fine for me, but it'll adjust back far enough for my dad, who's 6' 200lbs. I ordered tilt for the passenger side, got shipped a slider instead. Probably for the best, considering that the harnesses wouldn't have let the seat tilt forward very far. But thus far, I like em. :D

I'm 6'1 225

I need a little arm stretch:D

They look great though. Wish they made them in 2-tone. I'll be needing tan/black seats for my '78 Cherokee before long

Haven't updated this thread in a while. Truck is still here with me in Austin. A couple weeks back I drove it out to Bastrop, and hit some trails for a little while that Saturday. Had some fun, and discovered a few things:

1. This needs a lift. not alot of lift. but some. and bumpstops.
2. Autozone carries the part to bypass the heater core for 4 bucks.
3. I need a new hold-down for the HEI dist. timing continues to get bumped. (had to deal with this again tonight, went for a little cruise down the drag, stopped to get gas, wouldn't crank, timing was off.)
4. A K5 stock height on 35's can run clean over an abandoned couch in the middle of the woods. easily.
5. Always take the hardtop off to wheel. Oh well. It was cracked beforehand. Get to practice some more with fiberglass. :D

And #6. I love this truck. :D

Seats are awesome, love the harnesses, need a bikini top.

(And for the comment I know was made earlier in this thread, yes, the girls do love the K5 ;))

Sounds like a good time! We should get together sometime and have a welding party on my rusty floor.

For sure. I have a relative (not for sure on how the relation goes:haha:) that has a badass workshop here in the Austin area. Just need to get ahold of him. I've still got your number bro. I've been itching to pick up the gun for a while :D

EDIT:

Plus i really want to check out that Sierra of yours. That looks mean.:waytogo:

Gimme a call whenever, I just spent most of the day at Lunatics house working on his K5 It's always fun wrenching even if it's not your own rig.

I've still got your number too.

Decisions. (3/9) *warning this is a long and possibly rambling post*

Well, I'm back home in Lufkin, not a planned trip. Had a death in the family (cousin in a 4wheeler wreck). I'll be going back to Austin for a test on Friday and then hopefully figuring out how to get the '73 back to Lufkin. I was getting out of Austin on Sunday, but couldn't get the truck to crank.

I have a feeling it's still that distributor hold down. When everything's right, the motor spins over easy, cranks every time. But now it's like it's fighting itself. And with it in a parking lot with only what basic tools I always have in the back, I can't do a whole lot.

I'm contemplating taking this build in a different direction. Even if the problem with the motor is a simple fix, I'm probably gonna let my dad use it as his DD here in Lufkin, and I'll take the Taurus back to Austin. It's more economical and reliable. We're thinking about turning the K5 into a street legal weekend warrior. Move further down the scale from daily driver, with a lift, some larger tires and beadlocks, a full cage, lower gears, etc.

This may not happen. I don't know what to do with it for sure. My brain's kinda scrambled, but I know for sure I can't be taking it back and forth between here and Austin with it not in tip top shape and with no overdrive. I just don't have the time or resources to be working on it.

I want to drive only my truck. But messing with a solid drivetrain scares me. Yeah the engine has been quirky, but with swapping trans and axles and installing lifts and changing driveshaft angles and lengths, I just don't want it to turn into all build and no drive. Cause that's what I love. Just driving.

I know this is rambling and confusing and a long read. Maybe some of you guys have been here? Any input or comments are welcome.

replace the dissy hold down or even replace the dissy. Then drive the balls off of it.

well you have two k5s so why not make one your reliable drive anytime truck, and take the other and build it. i would think to build the 73 so your not beating on the 1st gen. ideally neither one is a good DD if your having to drive that far.
maybe drive the taurus until you get your truck reliable like you want. keep it stock and just throw a nv4500 in there or something like that
