'73 RS/Z-28......the fun and games continue

Man, I miss my 73' maro so bad. I can't look at these pictures anymore. I was a stupid kid at the time. I bought mine for $600 and sold it a few years later for $2700. These cars are now selling for 10k and up un-restored. I didn't have the split bumper though. Very nice.

Here she is.

Only picture I have.

RW138. either, thats not a '73. or someone put a '70 1/2 short rear spoiler on the '73. where the front seats. low back. or did they have a headrest?

nice car though. looks clean.

Mine had the low backs when I bought it. It was definetely a 73' according to the vin #. Mine started it's life as a base model with a 6 cyl. No spoiler, no tach, column shifter, etc... We kind of cloned it to look like a Z-28. Dropped a 350ci in it. Switched to a floor shifter with console. Added the short spoiler out back. PO did the blue paint with rallye and pin stripes. Found the Z-28 style rims and painted them to match body. Mine would have never been worth as much as yours with matching #'s. Dude, I can't even count how many girls that car scored me. Lol.

How's that 496 coming, and this is the Viper 6 sp.?

maybe there was some confusion there. the BBC i picked up 1st is a stock early '80s 454 that i was going to stroke to 496. I also picked up a 2001 8.1L vortec, which is 496ci already.

heres beasty.

time to get to work.

useing any old school BBC, neutral balance flywheel. bellhousing and clutch parts from Mcleod. really pretty easy. the pattern is standard GM tranny patteren. by some measurements my shifter should be within 3/4" of center of my factory shifter hole.

turns out like Im going to need a squareport BBC intake manifold for a Dominator 4500 series carb mount.

any muscle or drag guys have such a thing...... like a vintage Edelbrock c454 intake.

Why not a stand alone harness and leave the 8.1 injected..? Or did i miss something..?

thats a further phase. its be quite a few thousand dollars to get the hard parts I need from Raylar to overhaul it and poke it to 525. So in the meantime, I need to drop my other BBC in it and drive for the summer. but I picked up some squareport 990 heads and already have a big dominator carb. so I need a specific intake. actually theres one guy on another site with a torker 4500 available. it actually looks like edelbrocks re-introduction of the c-454 manifold. that'll do so I can slap this pig back together for the summer.

see heres what i got to plock in for this summer season already. and a new 4340 "RPM" crank for very cheap. except the pic of the intake in the c427x, which doesn'tg fit my dominator. but I do have a used torker 4500 coming.

I did find out my carb is an 1150 dominator though. which is quite a bit bigger than I was lead to believe when I bought it. but now its what I got so I'll use it.

and its got a COOL hat!!!!!

:D

Man, that is a LOT of carb, is this an rpm monster? Are you going to stud the bottom end?

I will for sure use arp stud on the bottom. the carb is big no question. like I mentioned, the seller sort of misrepresented it. and i didn't look into it very hard. so my bad. now I got it. so its going on.

I'm putting a lower end forged 4" crank in. and I'll get a set of forged scat rods. just balance the rod piston assemblies and let 'er buck. the intake and heads will flow top end pretty good./ obviously not like a set of $3000 brodix but good enough for a meantime engine.

I'm thinking I like a solid roller camshaft. but what do the experts have to say for a solid roller for this engine?
