76 Blazer Project thread Updated 6/19/15 Long over due updates

A questions/potential issue:

Did you do any research or calculations for your track bar? It's very steep and looks like it would bind. Also, I've heard its supposed to follow the same angle as the draglink.

Maybe the flex isn't too important in the mud, but it still may make it squirrely (i.e. lots of bumpsteer caused by the track bar) :dunno:

And maybe it will work fine for you, you'll have to let us know ;)

I did not really do that any where as much research as i should have, it was something i added on pretty quick to cure death wobble. I have been thinking about redoing it. As for the flex i have not had it on a RTI ramp yet to see but i plan on taking it off on the trails so it does not hurt flex. I don't have any bump steer issues but i also have a steering dampner

I have made some more progress and i am about ready to drop the engine in for the final time

Well i made some more progress and got the motor in for good, it took a while with all the cleanencing that i needed to do to the frame, and the fact that i had to drill new holes for the transmission Cross member becasue the Gen III engine is shorter than a Gen I.

This is a corvette Fuel filter/regulator, this allows me to run a return less system because that is the style of fuel rail that came with the engine

Would you mind elaborating on the frame clearancing that you performed? I noticed the clearing that you did for the exhaust manifold on the passenger side. Were there any other ares that needed attention? are you going to run A/C?

Cheers,

Rufus

You should have run some shorty block hugger headers to avoid frame mods.

Really that applys when you are linked due to how your suspension will work.

I am not going to run AC, that would take a good amount of grinding and reinforcing the frame it looks like due to the position of the AC pump. I only had to clearance 3 areas, both sides for the exaust manifolds, not very much at all just a little grinding. The big spot was on the engine cross member it took a good amount of grinding and cutting to clear the oil pan on the 5.3. Right now the largest problem that i am facing is the drivers side manifold hits the clutch slave cylinder, so i need to find a manifold off a ls1 or ls2 motor

cool, thanks for the reply. I am about to tackle the same thing on my 73 using the 6.0l lq9. All three positions you mentioned I know about on mine. I am going to run A/C on mine so I was hoping you had crossed that bridge. Looks like I will be doing that on my own.

Once again thanks for the information.

Cheers,

Rufus

Update, i have been making progress even though i have not updated this, i got it back from the exhaust shop yesterday and i have been driving it today, it defently has a lot more power than my old motor and i have not even gotten the engine running the greatest yet. Pics to follow later today

I bought an Interdynamics A/C guage that you could check low and high sise with.I should have sprung for a nicemanifold set. Charged system and decided to look at high side. Plugged it in. Saw guage push halfway out. Only had enough time to close my eyes before the guage body hit the bridge of my nose, between my eyes!!!!!:eek1: All refrigerant leaked out, alot of which was on me. I was still in the Oriellys parking lot, so I ran inside to flush my face. I then went outside, collected the pieces and tried to remain calm while I requested a new guage and replacement refrigerant.:angry1:
I hope your pressure line failure was slightly less eventful.
