^^ I didn't think my idea seemed complex...

certainly not, but for 6k, I'm into cummins territory:waytogo:

47re is all electronic, found behind 24v and newer into the 48re and newer.

Rh is hydraulic valve body. That is what you will find behind a p-pump 12v.

The 518 is non-lockup auto, you'll find behind the VE 12valves.

The absolute easiest is manual control of od and lockup with 2 simple switches or buttons. All that's needed is to feed a 12 volt source to each solenoid. Super simple.

Makes sense Luke...reading about the 518 lockup kit, that would make for a TC lockup OD setup right?

a video of the tcc lockup kit:

just renewed my member, been a while,

im liking ur bart alot. I recentlly bought a duramax ccsb 4x4. got rid of my black ecsb, gotta say this I dont think ill buy another gasser again, im addicted to diesel now.

So my thought is, GO DIESEL! :woot:

Yeah, i guess that 502 is pretty spendy. I'm sure for half that you could build a 454 in the 500 ftlb range...
Well, probably, I would mimic the Maiden engine, except that cam I would lighten up on it....that thing has 500 tq from 2000-4500 peaking at 550 @ 3250.

well, lots of options, and all of them pretty cool. the D max seems pretty daunting to me, the cummins sounds easier, chevy stuff the easiest, but seems to be falling out of fashion around here...

has anyone mentioned Caddy power??? w/ aftermarket efi...:dunno:

Yep....Kert!

If that dmax is still there I may put an offer in on it. I need new injectors in mine so thats like 2k. for 1500 I get spare parts for my truck. And I could start building a puller truck...uhhh ohhhh

Do a 1994 - 1998 Cummins 12V, my neighbor has one in his chevy dually, they call 'em "Chummins" and its supposed to be a pretty simple swap. Plus you could make 1000 ft/lbs of torque for the same money you could make a 454 make 500 ft/lbs. ie. fuel plate, injectors, studs, turbo, you can black out the street and yank any trailer you want. haha

Dave, here's my .02

I vote for a cummins for the reliability and millage. Here's some of the biggest Pros:

- They are relatively inexpensive and in stock form can handle serious power

- In stock form they make 400+ ft/lbs -- Add less than $200 in hard parts and your at or over your 500 ft/lb goal

- They are exceptionally easy to work on and wire, the conversion with a crossmember from somewhere like avalanche or elsewhere would be a very easy especially if you used a dodge lock up trans.

- These motors will last forever if you take care of them. In my mind there is not another light truck motor that can touch a mechanical cummins for longevity and reliability. My buddy's Gramps had his 89 since it was new to when he passed away 3 years ago it had 750K miles on the original engine, apart from an valve adjustment the motor internals had never been touched.

- The millage is exceptionally good and the more fuel and air you feed the motor (within reason) the more power you make and the better your millage- Unlike gas motors where your millage decreases as your power increases. My 93 when it was stock consistently got 19mpg pulling my 4K tool trailer in a mix of 70mph highway and city traffic.

I've owned 5 or 6 different types of diesels and I keep coming back to the cummins trucks because of their incredible reliability and simplicity.

My current dodge diesel is a 93 with 240K on the clock and she runs like a top, I picked her up for 2300 and daily drove the truck until I had an accident a few months ago. Over the last few months I have been towing my tool trailer and dump trailer with my 07 f150 which I know is not a built 454 but still the fuel cost not to mention the lack of grunt is killing me. I went from 19mpg to under 10 and i can't wait to get my dodge back on the road, the constant filling up and added cost of getting such terrible millage has been a good reminder of why diesel is the way to go.

Any way enough rambling, i'm sure what every you do BART will be bad ass :thumb:

sums it up right here! I emailed that guy on the dmax. Hopefully he gets back to me.

Really want to get my dmax back to 100%

Is it weird that I was thinking about your truck while driving down the road today? Seriously I was running drivetrain scenarios through my head.

So looking at Google maps, they had a new picture of my house,

Sitting in the driveway, what to my wondering eyes did appear, but your Dually Zim, pretty cool if you ask me

Dude, I"ve been thinking about it even when I'm not driving down the road..Cummins, Duramax, Detroit, Perkins, 454, 502, 572, blowers, turbos, Allisons, 4L80's, 47RH's, adapters, stand alone controllers, Overdrives, 2 Speed axles, driveshafts, radiators, electronics, intercoolers, cruise control systems, A/C systems, sound proofing, insulation, engine mounts, trans mounts, Speedo drives, Acc. pedal position outputs...and on and on and on.:doah:

Haha that is really cool Eric.

Its easier to spend other people's money when we don't have any of our own ! :haha:

I hear ya brother, unfortunately I'm still spending on the Maiden at the moment, so BART is getting pushed farther away from the spending for now.

Two things caught my eye there, I keep thinking about those myself:
Perkins, and 2 speed axle.
I actually do own a pair of those but unfortunately, lost the contact where they are so I forgot about them.

My opinion, 40 year old 2 speed diffs go from low to lower gear ratio. And their only purpose in life was to make up for the ****ty horsepower the engines of that era were rated for.

And Perkins, never was a fan. But can't say there's anything particularly wrong with any of them that I know of. Other than they're the red headed step child of the diesel engine world. Every manufacturer has owned them at some point.

The perkins for me is the fact I already own it, had it in a K5 I bought and it's the only thing I have left of it including the SM465 belhousing.
It's all mechanical, has 410ft lbs of torque works fine for me. And for the record, I got consistantly 30 MPG in my K5 on 35" tires and 3.08 gears.
The 2 speed axles you are right, they go from low to lower, so they will work for a heavy pig with with bigger tires, and again I was thinking of them because I had them, now I am probably gonna just do with single speed axles and try to get my extra gearing in a splitter or OD tranny.
:dunno:

Got a set of Weld Forged wheels from Iceman....had them stripped for polishing...

now I got some elbow grease to put into them....
