I use a dial indicator on top of the valve. Back engine off TDC. Crank a valve down. Bring up till a few thou deflection. Mark damper. Release valve. Pass over TDC. Crank valve back down. Back engine up till valve deflects dial a few thou. Mark damper. Split difference between marks its absolute TDC. Splitting piston dwell.
 
OK, good info Luke, I guess I'll be doing that soon as well, then going through the inj pump timing again.

I'll have to pull a v/c in the near future to find out....the block is original and most everything else looks to be as well
 
if you need any help with Cummins part numbers just send me a message, I work for Cummins and will help you out, and I know you are past this point or may have found it already but the part number for the APEX Cummins red is 3163075
 
I'll post up some head numbers when I get it out of the truck....
Warpath...Thanks for the info...is that for a rattle can? If it is do you know if there is a paint mix code?
 
it is a rattle can, I will look for a mix code but anyone can buy the cans from a Cummins dealer.
