By default the software alerts you once for every unread thread you have (though that's not cumulative) AND every time your post is quoted AND every time you are tagged. I turned off all alerts except quotes and tagging, I found that tags easily got buried every time any watched thread got bumped. So I don't wind up with huge numbers of alerts anymore.

Oh yeah, I also get alerts when you "like" my post.

This brings interesting chuckles when someone "likes" a post that's months or years old. Which is exactly what prompted me to bump this thread yesterday. :wink1:

You "liked" this post about you not paying attention...3 months after I tagged you.

I found that quite funny. :rotfl:

And bumped so that @76zimmer pays better attention! :haha:

Is this on hold right now due to the shop project?

That's a pretty penny! :eek1:

Prolly could have hired a 10.5" 14BFF rebuild for half that. And if not, I think I'll be posting mine in the classified soon. :haha:

its the wide/fat dana70hd drw axle . . .

they never realy did them in 14ff much . and in 14ff that mid 3.54ish ratio harder to find .

Idk.... That detroit is a full case locker, figure $700 or so. The install kit, probably at least $200 and the gearset, $300 or so. Plus shop needs to make some profit....

Oh and side note, dana axles suck to gear. 14bff all day long is 100x easier.

True Adam, he had the diff in/out about 10 times he said!
His labor was 468$
There are cheaper ways to do things, but I wanted to keep he 70HD and I wanted it done right

My comparison was with the 14 bolt (which I thought was more common than the D70, but I'm not super familiar with DRW rigs). Easy to work on and cheaper lunchbox lockers.

OTOH, your price breakdown looks spot-on once I add in the labor cost.

if you have all the special cool tools and setup helper tools it can be a better job . and if you learn how to read the etched in no.s from old to new gear sets this helps setup also .

but yes shimmed axles can be a pita . . . . over threaded coller adjusted axles .

Carbon fiber Duster,
His chassis (Tom Block race cars unlimited) Moser sheet metal 10" rear, Alan Johnson cast aluminum block, Indy cyl heads, undetermined ci.
Displacement but 540+.... Not sure if supercharged or twin turbos yet.
Should be funnernhell!

Wow that thing is sweet!

Tom does some real quality work....it's a 2nd business for him that he could take full time if he wanted to, but his land management business runs his life enough on its own. If your not in a hurry he's the go to guy in my area for chassis, rear ends and general serious drag car stuff.

Was that the dudes house we went to for tube?

Yes Eric...Tom Block racecars unlimited. He still has his Avenger that we saw, but this car will be 600 lbs lighter and about 2500hp.... The missing front strut/coil over/suspension went on Jeff Lutz' car when he came through Kalamazoo heading to Martin drag way for Hot Rod DragWeek and he toasted those parts driving on the highway from Ohio....he called Tom and they pulled the parts of Toms car and put them on Jeffs Camaro and he got to the track on time to make a single pass of 6.10/244....quickest run of DragWeek 2016....there is an article in Hotrodmag last month.

I was wondering the same thing lol. But he said this car has a tom block chassis, and that dude built his own chassis's... So maybe not..:dunno:
He is Tom Block!

Ah... Lol. The way you typed it I wasn't sure. But I knew the place looked familiar :)

Heck yeah! Nothing wrong with that.

I just know I can do a full breakdown and gear setup/reassemble on a ff in about 3-4 hrs. The last 60 I did I had to pull it at least a dozen times and had over 8 hrs into it.

I'm building a case spreader next time....

A case spreader on Dana style axles is actually needed to do it " properly"

You can't really get much carrier bearing preload without it. You can get some.

It takes me less time than you guys lol. Rarely does it take me more than 4 attempts

Yeah he's got one, this pinion setup was a bit different than the set that was in there. Literally everything inside the housing is new except the caps. He honed the surfaces before install and had to do more cleaning inside before he could proceed....I don't know what it was, almost rubbery/gummy after the acid dip....that was an extra hour of labor but it's good now.....10 hrs labor total.
