Where are those going to go, and that doesn't look like a "C"...?

Strong trannys with an OD gear are bitchin!

Looks like a good start Zim, nice find.

got the wheels at a polisher right now...old school guy with the big buffing wheels setup on the motor arbors...should be done in a couple weeks...

In the meantime, I got some grabby rear brakes...I believe perhaps a bad axle seal allowing lube to the shoes. I'm going to pull the axle apart to see whats happening under the drum, but also wonder with the D70, it shows no indication of a posi/locking feature to the diff...so assuming its an open unit, whats a reliable unit to add to the open diff to get a posi set up. I was thinking a Detroit or a Powertrax unit to put in the open carrier?

pretty awesome if you dont go crazy with it. Just a good cleaned up stock motor swapped in:thumb:

found a pic of my 85...these are the colors I have in mind for BART....the silver in the middle:

opened up the rear today to check things out, and confirm the carrier type.

Open, so a traction adding device will be needed at some point...

So Luke recommends the Detroit true trac, any other experiences? I like the Detroit Locker in the Maiden and how it acts, what do you like for a towing only vehicle?

Also got some grabby brakes back there, so I pulled one side and they look pretty good, not wet with lube and a pretty decent amount of shoe left.

About traction devices, I have no experience with the true trac, but I hear it's nice and I have one for a d44 that I will be using soon so I can give you input then.
As for the grabbing brakes, looks like there was some rust in there and some dust.
I would clean it up really well, lube the hardware, and scuff the drums and the brake shoes and see how it goes, I bet you it will be much better.

With the true trac you can use a heavier lube to get a more posative power transfer. or a thinner one to give it less. They are whats going in the burb when the gear change day comes. For a road vehicle there reallly isnt a need for the detroit IMHO. I have not personally used either though.
