yep the metal tag is gone, its a Ford application by the brackets on it (Ford logo) so I guess that wouldn't match my 8/6.5 pattern wheels anyway.
not sure what the wms to wms measurement is either...that things dam heavy to try and move around by yourself!
I'll have to get back out there and see if I can get a yard operator to lift it and set it up on something so I can check it out further...If its a 3.54 w/ locker and discs I would go up to 500 for it, if it will work as is with my wheels and the width is right.

There's very little chance that it's a 3.55 I won't say no chance, because anything is possible, but slim to none, and slim just walked out the door.

Zim why don't you keep an eye out for a newer AAM too. They're in both dodge and Chevy so they're everywhere nowadays. 11.5" ring gear in the diesels. 3.55s are very common. So are 3.73s.

will do Luke, I just inquired about a 02 Dodge dually rear, not sure if gas or oilburner, still waiting to hear from the Craigslist ad.
I was thinking Dodge went to AAM in the early 2000's?

2003. When they changed body style in the 2500 and bigger trucks.

Thanks AJ, I guess it don't matter much if its Dana or AAM, but I would like to get discs and a locker w/ it!

The AAM disked rear I just picked up is 3.73 with some sort of locker. Came out of a GM. I'm gonna upgrade my 94 dodge with it.

And for like one third of the price of a Dodge 80.

Factory disc brake 80 is so rare because it was only available for 1.5 years. There's some disk brake kits out there but there's still $600

AAM 11.5 = horribly expensive to fix if something goes wrong. Just a thought for you, as they suffer from the basic same POS G80 the older axles come with, except instead of a 400$ Detroit and carrier like the old 14 bolt uses, the AAM is a complete carrier and the Detroit is 1500ish give or take a bit.

After about 20 min worth of thought, I decided to go with the 14 bolt and just add disks, that extra inch of ring gear isnt worth it to me. Mine uses cheaper brakes, its cheaper to fix, and it doesnt hang as low. Food for thought.

Most of those points you mentioned are irrelevant for the application that it'll be going into in Zimmerman's truck 2wd dually for towing.

He doesn't want a Detroit for towing. Ground clearance is irrelevant. The integrated carrier is stronger. I would bet money that the AAM ring and pinion and master overhaul kit is not much difference in cost then a Dana 80

Actually my Dana 110 ring gear is half of my carrier. It's not bolted to the carrier, it is half of the carrier. Machined one piece.

Plus I paid $300 for the AAM that I got. The last two disk brake 80s I found used were in the states and $1000 & $1150 respectively.

and good thought as well...although the Dana 70 truetrac is about $700:eek1:,

so when I get around to it, I should do some measuring of spindle to spindle and spindle diameter to see if my dually hubs will fit the 70 from the Dodge, then all I would need to do is discs and the TrueTrac.
Also wondering if I need the electrical plug (to the tone ring on the rear carrier???) to make electrical input to the trans (47RE)?

The rear tone ring is ABS only. Has litterally nothing to do with the trNny. Overdrive and the lockup clutch on the 47 Rh are single wire 12 V input there's a three wire plug on the side of the case that's it

So what's wrong with the diff in the back of your truck now? If you just want to just brake it there is a company that builds a kit for about 450 bucks and it uses the Chevy three-quarter ton calipers and rotors if you don't mind not having a park brake.

nothing wrong Luke, cept its 4.10's
I was under the impression that plug was for a VSS....I have the 47RE, It needs throttle position, vehicle speed sensor and something else to shift right...if I don't need that plug in the back, I'm only concerned with eventually getting 3.54's and a locker in it....discs would be a luxury but not a necessity.
I'm still hoping I can use the 3.54's from the Dodge D70U in my D70HD.

Ah I thought you had an RH. Yes that goes to the PCM and the PCM has some solenoid governor control. All the sensor inputs go to the PCM and the PCM feeds the auto everything it needs.

So far to date. I'm into this 3.73 AAM and one piece aluminum Dodge driveshaft with AAM flange for $400. Canadian.

That's like $50 American.......

Cheaper than a disk kit so far :) and if I have to move the perches over and rework the Dshaft tube some. So be it. That's peanuts.

Your saying the rear diff plug (sensor) goes to the PCM?

Would it be just to control the ABS, or for proper operation of the trans?

That would be like $425 American now...Obama has sucked the value right out of a US dollar.

I think I forgot to put up pics of my conversion motor mounts. Here they are quad isolator auto world mount. I'll be using them soon.
