Guides sounds somewhat likely with the wet/dry numbers being so close.

I got no comment on putting it in the 'vette except that IMO your 'vette is already perfect.
Those plugs were only in for about4500 miles.
I really shouldnt be thinking of more work on the Vette anyway....I really need to upgrade to discs on it before thinking about more power!

I'd totally do disc's at 4 corners on your Vette before anything else. If you autocross it at all I'd keep the 327 too...

Dang that does look really good. I wonder if it might just be seals if it's been sitting?
Love me some canted valve action.

Duntov built the midyears with the 327 in mind .
A bit more balanced w the 327 for sure, he pushed hard and got aluminum heads for the 427 which closed the gap on weight but certainly gave advantages on longer tracks.

The odometer shows ~87000 now, seems legit, so its a bit long in the tooth for a 76 454!

image.jpeg image.jpeg pulled the engine and trans today
Block numbers and casting date in pics, date is Sep 28 75
I need to build a platform to roll it around on, as my jerry-rigged unit broke already....probably close to 1/2 ton there.

That progress makes me excited.
Me too!
Only 3 years behind schedule!
Good job Bud!
And leave your Vette alone!
Yeah its tucked away where I cant touch it til spring, sure miss looking at it from time to time though...

But ya gotta admit how sexy would an aluminum head FI BBC under that hood be?

You do know aluminum heads aluminum water pump aluminum intake and your getting pretty close to small block weight

:burnout:

The coolest car I ever had the honour to ride in was a factory 427 4 speed 65 Vette roadster!!
So when is this BB swap happening!?? :burnout::D Lol! Sure can't blame you for thinking it!

Um yes please.

I don't know if you remember me telling you this but the first really powerful car I ever drove was a 67 427 vette. Big block and your year just a dream combo for me
I feel that....my best ride in a midyear was a 427 /425hp 66 coupe. It was a bit scary with them skinny tires on it!

Funnernhell eh Dean?

Your Vette is not numbers matching. There is no valid reason NOT to put a big block in it.

Martin
I do have a matching numbers block in the basement! But the biggest reason would be $$$$$ and
$$$$$

My uncle had a factory new '66 427 Vette. A lot of family stories involving that car, including one where he made the trip from Dearborn to Kalamazoo in an hour less than normal.

I think he has an excellent reason to not put the big block in there. At this point in time, he has a truck to get back together. Until that's done, there's no reason to start another project.

Once that's done, however, things will be different.

I went to a National Corvette Club convention ONE time (1985), there were quite a few stories told about the 427 cars, including a story about a new 66 427/450 car that the guy took drag racing (under warranty still) he broke rods in it twice (these were the smaller 3/8 rods not the 7/16 rods) and two rear 4.11 diffs. After the second engine and rear diff the dealer said no more, but Chevrolet engineering took the engine for research and OK'd replacement.
the redline was 6500, but he said it kept pulling hard so he stayed in it to 7000 or more a few times. he said "evidently when they put 6500 on the tach it was for a reason" well it was funny at the time but what a shame for such a collectible car now.

RIGHT ON! the truck has to be tow worthy by June 2017, then the body/interior resto begins.
