Yeah, it seems the gear mesh isn't right for the barring tool. Mine worked fine, but I did a Homer when I tried to start it with the barring tool in place. After the ratchet spun around and fell off. I stopped immediately. The barring tool was stuck on the outside teeth of the flywheel. I had to twist it off with channel locks.

Been in a similar situation with a guy at work on a C18, he asked me to fire it up while he watched. Only difference is this one launched the barring tool across the shop

I wonder how mach damage idiots have done leaving the barring tool in. After the first time, I started leaving a note on the instrument panel for any dumb*** (mainly me) to remove the barring tool before touching the key.

I'll keep that in mind
Although I get used to seeing a note and eventually look right through it.
I have one on the welder.....turn off gas
I have one on the door leaving the shop....turn off air compressor
I have one on the rollbar of the Maiden next to the start switch....check gear position

My toolbox is like 100#'s of shit in a 50# box!
And I have a new bigger box to put it in, just haven't made that a must do thing yet....mostly because I have to move some rigidly mounted things to make a spot for the box.
I got a 44" HF set, it ain't no professional piece but then neither am I!

Kert modified the gearcase cover so I can adjust the injection pump timing

First cut out the old oil filler tube mounting flange rom the cover. Then made a backing plate for the new cover to bolt and tigged that to the gearcase cover... then the oil tube flange welded to the removable cover.
8 1/4-28 bolts to hold the new cover in place.

Did your cover warped a lot? It took me an hour hammering on mine to straightening it out.

Kert was careful w the heat but it did warp enough to see...we're thinking it will pull down when bolted on to the gear-case.

Those seals are pretty simple.

Had the little plastic installer sleeve on it, not?

Martin

Yes had the plastic guide sleeve and the metal driver but I think the overspray on the tin was just enough to make it a PITA. After tapping for 10 min. I hit just the right spot and it went in square finally. Then it was just a matter of seating it with the driver tool.

Does your fasteners for the flange go the factory cover or does it have blind tapped holes?
