The Griff submitted a new Build:

76 K10 - It Anit mine

This truck belongs to a friend of mine, I've mentioned it a couple times in the lounge, but he asked me to make a thread for it, since he's to lazy to make one the 67-72 Forum, :doah:.

I can't guarantee this will get updated all that often, but here goes.

My friend's grandpa has had this truck sitting in his front yard since 97, when he parked it because the trans started slipping.
A few months ago, he wanted to build a mud truck, so he asked his grandpa is he could get it, and he did! With only one catch, he wanted to keep the 350 in it, Even though it hadn't been started since 97.

So mudfest came and went, without the truck being near running, so he decided to go ahead and get it on the road.

Here's the current plans as far I know, they change every so often.

-Finish the new body
-Get the 454 from the Suburban for temporary mobility
-Find all the saddle color interior pieces
-Find wheels and tires, Specifically white spokes and Primewell PA-100's
-Build his 4-6 inch lift (He absolutely refuses to buy one, doesn't trust them)
-Buy the TBI 305 from a friend of ours, then figure out the do a fuel pump for a carb on a centerbolt engine
-Find another fuel tank (absolutely no Blazer/Suburban tanks)
-Paint it Oliver Green

This truck was VERY, VERY, rusty, bad enough that he decided to get a whole new cab, the whole section under the seat was pretty well gone.
So first we went and found a new cab and front clip from an 84 K10 for $100,

Now he's got new rockers, cab corners, and floor in the new white cab, over the last few days we've been junkyard hopping for new doors and fenders, the white 84 doors and fenders were a little too rusty for his liking.

Yours truly

Yesterday we pulled the 350 out, and tomorrow we're going to pickup a bed.

Hopefully I can post pictures of the new bed tomorrow.

Look at it this way, It looks a hell of alot different than when he started.
:D

That last picture isn't the most up to date, now the engine is gone, and it has doors and fenders.

So he is going to put a 454 in it, and then take it out and put a 305 in it????

Martin

Are those factory white spokes on that blue and white truck under the tee pee?

Martin

Yeah, He already has a high mile 454 from an 86 C20 Suburban, It runs great but he really doesn't want to put a big block in it, Its only going in so he can drive it until he buys the 305 and gets his cam in it.

And yes they are, and I already tried to buy them from the guy, he doesn't want to get rid of them, but he did say he might trade for a set of 15 inch 8 lugs.

Why would anyone take a 454 out to put a 305 in???

A 350 I could see. Maybe. I don't understand putting money into a 305, or fiddling with putting a big block in, only to pull it out and put a (crappy) small block in.

Martin

Why doesn't he keep the 454 in it? I have absolutely no idea, but yet he won't let me have it.
He's said he doesn't want to deal with the mileage of the 454, but he wants to build the 305 to the point of it getting less than 10 MPG anyway, soooo, you tell me, and theres no reasoning with him on it, its set, He also refuses to use a Suburban/Blazer tank, It was a hard enough time talking him into using dual factory tanks.

He wants to use the 305 because a friend of ours pulled it out of a 93 half ton GMC that was rolled with only 165,000 miles or so on it, and he only wants $100 for it, and the 700R4 behind it.
He wants to put some kind of torque-ier cam in it, a 4 barrel Holley, and bore it .30 over.

No bed today, the guy selling it didn't answer the phone when he called, so he angrily decided not to use that bed, and after some more phone calls, we found one about 50 miles south of here for $140, so we're going down there tomorrow.

No luck today, we couldn't find a bed on craigslist for less than $300.

So we went junkyard hopping all morning, find a whole lot of nothing, then, at a junkyard about 40 miles from where we started, we found a decent looking red 85 C10, it's bed looked alright, but had quite a bit of bondo in it, and the bed floor itself was bowed up about 6 inches in the rear, the truck's frame was bent, like it had been rear-ended, the receiver was at a 45 Degree angle. It did have a perfect tailgate though.

I was fairly concerned about the bowed floor, he was more worried about the bondo, but they only wanted $125, so we decided to go for it.

This bed fought us more than any other bed, or any body part for that matter, we had ever messed with. We spent the better part of 3 hours fighting this thing while laying on sharp rocks and broken bricks. I had had enough, I went to ask them if they could just torch it off, turns out they don't do that, I asked if they had a grinder we could borrow, they don't let power tools in the yard.
Then, just for good measure, they tell me that to pick it up with the forklift, we would have to bring it out to the aisle, which is about 40 ft from where this truck was, and we would have had to carry it sideways, so we decided that it wasn't worth the effort.

In other news, he decided against the 454 altogether, were picking up the 305 tomorrow.

Well, He went and picked up the 305 today, supposedly it's been sitting in an open pole building for the last 3 years or so, He doesn't seem to worried about it, even though last year he bought a $100 305 that had been sitting in a barn for a few years to put in his 72 C20, and it locked up while he was going down the highway.

We also started thinking about interior stuff, I like the idea of cloth Blazer/Suburban buckets with a console, he says absolutely no buckets, unless they have a folding middle seat. (like in a 90's Dodge truck) So after more ideas, we decided on the newer bodystyle (e.g. 2003) Chevy pickup front seats.

Twice, The first $100 305 he bought had been sitting in a barn with no carb on it, and no fuel pump, and after about 600 miles a rats nest got wrapped up in the cam, and locked it up on the side of the highway.

This one did have it's TBI and had it's cover plate for the fuel pump hole.
And, this one even had a tarp over it.

I still haven't figured out why he wouldn't go with the 454, he already has it, it is still in the Suburban, which runs and drives.

Well, turns out he didn't give $100 for this 305, he traded a fish tank for it.

We spent last night finding out what we could on it.
We decided to pull the intake off to make sure theres no rats nest inside this one. There wasn't.
I had always thought the TBI heads had different intake bolt-holes in the center, and turns out I was right, we pulled the TBI intake off, and set an old junk carb intake on, the four in the back lined up, and the four in the front did.

So he decided that he'll just drill those four out bigger, Its a junk intake so I said why not. After about 45 minutes of trial and error, a bolt went down into one of the heads, so then the heads came off. Then we found the bad head gasket, the large pools of water oil, and rust rings in 3 cylinders.

I've tried convincing him, but he's set on using this 305, even though his perfectly fine and running 454 is just sitting there in a Suburban with no rear axle.

Not much news on the 76, but today he traded his 97 C2500 (The Deathtrap) for a 79 C10. The bodys rough but not rusty, It has a crate 350 with about 30,000 miles on it, the TH350 shifts amazing.

The kid he's trading with is a very good friend of his, Although I personally can't stand him, thats why theres no pictures yet.

He called my buddy last night to let him know he bought a new truck, (the C10) so earlier he went over there and offered to trade the 97 for it, and he jumped at the chance.
This kid is only 15 and already having a kid of his own, (and has already bought and sold 4 trucks) so he's looking for one that is "safer" than the C10, Even though the C2500 has no power steering, cruise control with a mind of it's own, a terrible front end vibration, and leaks like a sieve around the windshield and really needs a new distributor cap.

I mentioned the idea of using this one as a parts truck for the K10, but he's decided that he's going to try and keep and drive this one for at least a year.

Pictures should come within the next few days.

I totally forgot about the existence of this thread until now.

He has made progress on the 76, he bought two parts trucks, a 79 shortbed K10 on 38's, and an 81 K20.

He took the cab and springs from the shortbed, and the SM465/ NP205 and bed from the 81 K20. He's got a roller 355 derby motor that only had a handful of runs on it, that he traded a 4-wheeler for in it now, though he does have 11 305's in his shed still, in varying states of together-ness. The 8 lug 10 bolt and semi-float 14 from the 81 K20 are buried in there too.

These are the only "in-progress" picture I could find.
