76 K5 Blazer Chalet - Put the ol girl out to pasture, literally.

I had the same cable not reaching issue, made a bracket , hated it. Called NAPA 14$ later a 7 in longer cable was delivered to the shop, perfect now, and no flexy ground clearance killing bracket

Do you think the flexy bracket is the reason the brake won't set?

yep, the cable housing needs to be rigidly attached to something, otherwise you just pull that bracket closer to the drum when you set the brake rather than the other way around.

Ok. I had it in my head that it just served as a sleeve for the cable to ride through and keep out of the way. thanks Brian.

Longer cables - we're talking about the ones that come out of the drum and not the ones from the pedal, right?

Correct, i only had to get one as mine is a 88. You have to find a patient parts guy as looking through the books is a tedious time consuming job for some of them, only to get less than 20$ for the part. If yours is the earlier setup with 2 cables you will need 2. What prompted the cable(s) not being long enough out of curiosity?

4" lift springs and 2.5" blocks. I called Napa and they think they can find what I need. Removed one drum and hacked the old cable, so I just have to run it by there. The cable didn't want to come out, I guess I'll have to completely disassemble the brakes to get it the new one in.

Not sure of your brake setup, but most likely you can remove the e- clip that holds the park brake arm on the shoe, push it in and get the arm out and get the cable end off. If its the hook style that connects the arm to the shoe, you may get away with taking the shoe retainer and spring off, slightly prying the shoe out and un-hook the cable then dealing with it. Or are you saying that the cable housing is stuck into the backing plate, give it a good ole military adjustment with a BFH.

****. Ordered a couple of custom cables from Inline tube that were 5" longer than stock. Got them on, got the adjuster nut adusted all the way down and there's definitely good tension on it, but still no e-brake at all. What am I doing wrong?

Edit & Update: Turns out the shop that r&r'd rear axle put the shoes on backwards. Got them turned around, e-brake works fine.

try this.back off cable adjuster all the way.adjust rear brakes at drums.then adjust cables.

99.5 % done, so I went ahead and installed my Zombie sticker. Going to try and take it to the shop tomorrow for alignment and safety inspection, wash it, and it will be good to go.

Thanks fellas.

Got the e-brake close enough. Its over at the tire shop getting aligned, brakes pressure bled, and a safety inspection. Hopefully my boys at goodyear come through and slap a sticker on it for me.

Might try to go camping this weekend.........

Fortunately it's a Chalet and not a drop-in camper. Otherwise you'd be locked in if some joker closed your tire carrier while you were sleeping.

Is the interior still standard Chalet stuff?

Hopefully the spare and sticker will keep thieves at bay. I modified the interior but don't have any recent pictures. I'll get some up when I get it back.

Ah. Guess yours is the only one I've seen deployed.

Got it home last night a the kids helped me pre trip. Put about 40 miles on it yesterday and the only problem is the tranny started leaking at the dipstick pretty good again. Guess my RTV fix wasn't a permanent one....Going to drive it about 90 miles to the lake today where we've got some land and do a little fishing and probably get some poser shots. Just me and the 6 year old, and I'll take our .22's as well. Wish us luck, i've told my brothers to keep they're cell phones handy......

My 2 yo wants to drive
