76 K5 Blazer Chalet - Put the ol girl out to pasture, literally.

A member on here used to make them. Believe he doesn't anymore.

For those of you with serious wishes to get one of these, remember to keep an eye on the Google map I have for ones for sale all around the country. I update it as often as I can. Either PM me for specific seller contact info / ad link or join our Yahoo Groups Chalet owners & enthusiasts' forum (link in sig below) and you can download the whole pair of lists there. I still don't receive a dime for doing this, it's just an insane effort to prevent these from being scrapped.

It's amazing how some olive drab, a lift and tires can turn a rig from fuddy-duddy to bad-a**

Hey, on a Chalet, would it work to build the spare tire carrier as a swing-down so the tire works as a step to get inside?

Do the tires work better backwards?

I thought about a swing down carrier, but seemed like a good way to break an ankle. I still need to work out a step and thinking some kind of 2 piece hinged step out of the rear hitch that will fold up under the bumper?

Tires are supposed to be a non-directional tread pattern. Seemed to work fine, just a little louder than what I'm used to.

Hell, when I was in the Marines we were lucky if the MT guys mounted them all the same direction.

But the swing down would be backwards with the tube + steps against the back door and the tire on the outside. Or it could be one step to get above the tire, then a ramp the rest of the way to the door. Then again, you would still have to lift the tire onto the closed carrier to mount it, which takes away part of the advantage of a swing-down.

Or you could do a stinger style, with the tire on the inside, since the tire would be at an angle you can step on the inside of the rim on the bottom and the top of the tire would be the next step. Kind of like the one they did on extreme4x4 on the scout 800

What about the stinger style and then having some kind of a board or flat cover strapped to the tire?

on the stinger, swingdown one I designed for mine, the stinger/mounting plate are on the backside of the tire, not the frontside like all the others I've seen.. I'm expecting the mounting plate to make a good step... hopefully I'll be building that soon...

Coordination man. Women's clothing is all about coordination.

Exactly. I'll have to take some pics when I take all 4 of them fishing/hunting next time. I have to pack a little differently than when I'm going by myself......

So brought it back to my shop and have a short list to fixup before the Labor day opening weekend of dove season.

First off is this. Ordered the Lokar firewall mount tranny dipstick from Summit and it should be here Monday.

The 2 center body mounts are out. I've got some used bushings, so need to loosen the others and reinstall theses.

Recheck torque on springs, u-bolts etc.

205 shifter rattles pretty good. Need to recheck it for tightness and grease it.

Got some kind of bad bearing noise up front occasionally that I think is the ps pump as its not happy with the 37's. Might put a new one of those on if I get time.

isn't that oil leak annoying?! i've been meaning to look into one of these for my burb that has this problem. did you get the 36" dipstick?

ps ireally like how this has turned out. has been giving me thought about burb mods.

the tranny leak is definitely irritating. Before the rebuild, it was leaking oil and tranny fluid all over the place. I replaced every seal/gasket on the engine except the intake and eliminated 99.9% of the oil leaks. Transmission and t-case was all resealed as well. If I can get the tranny dipstick to quit leaking, all I will have left is a small drip out of the t-case rear output. I can live with that.

Not sure how long this sucker is, but it was the one with the boot type seal.

i just ordered a 36" one yesterday hoping that helps. i would rather put the money towards a cummins swap but it is what it is.
