76 K5 Blazer Chalet - Put the ol girl out to pasture, literally.

Well, been 4 months or so and she's fading from memory. Still amazes me sometimes nobody got hurt. Skid marks are still there and fence is still down. I drive by it almost everyday.

Got a few parts to get rid of, just been too busy to really finish getting rid of them. Have only had one person interested enough in the camper to come look at it. So I prob will hold onto that and do something cool with that down the road. Still think I can make a nice little expedition trailer out of it.

Kept the 400sb and th350/np205 out of the Chalet and going to use them in my 72. Greg D has the drivetrain going through it for me because seals all busted loose and I was a little worried maybe the driveshaft got jammed into the case hard enough to bust things. Local performance shop has the 400 and is rebuilding it. Getting vortec heads, a little bit of a cam and some other goodies. Engine should be done next week.

Actually, just parked the Jimmy today and pulled my newly Jet rebuilt q-jet and dizzy out to drop off so they can break in and dyno the 400.

Doing it a little more right this time. No figuring it out as i go along. Should have everything I need and the plan to R&R the thing front to back once I start, which I did today. Not getting fancy, just building it to run well, right and dependable.

Going to turn this

Into something a little more like this, just without the 1 tons.

Have a 2" lift kit, bilsteins, and new poly bushings/body lift from ORD here. Still deciding if I can spend the money and build my 1/2 tons up a little. Going to run them with 33's only, but expect the engine to put down some pretty good torque. Need a couple things from Kert and a few other odds and ends, but as of today my Jimmy is down until I get it torn down and all put back together. Finish out this fall with a roll cage and new seats. Should be a pretty smokin little truck.

Sound like it will be a nice little ride when you are done. :waytogo:

Cool man, glad to see another 400 out their:thumb: Post some pics of the engine, i just got mine in, cant wait to do the exhaust this weekend hopefully

Yea, I've been following your thread. Stopped by this morning and he's got it assembled. I had them paint it black and its going to look really, really sharp with the aluminum intake and valve covers. I'll get some pics up when I get it back here. Probably ought to start a new thread too.

now we got matchin 400s lol. Too bad i had to ditch my aluminum valve covers though, but im on the hunt for a tall set of aluminums

After not getting a whole lot of buyer interest in the camper, decided I needed to do something with the thing. That, and the fact I stumbled into a good deerlease(some people call them hunt clubs) after a couple years of looking. Was going to make it a selfcontained trailer, but this was much easier and cheaper. Basically just framed it with treated lumber and bolted it on.

I'm going to leave it in camp this year, but hopefully next year will move it to the top of the rock hill in the lower pic and use it as a deerstand.

sad man... i liked that rig. Where's your lease at? i got a good one this year out in Goldthwaite.

Archer City area. I was driving about 4 hours to Sweetwater area, which is part of the reason I gave up the place a while back. This place is 90 minutes from my house. Much nicer for taking the family, and its pretty thick with deer and hogs as well.

sweet. last year i was driving about 40 miles west of austin. but it was a really nice place. got anything this season yet?

I've bookmarked this particular post for future photo use when somebody asks me for ways to transport an orphaned shell. I used to work in a steel foundry where giant slurry pump case sand casting patterns were forklifts brought those into our pattern shop mounted to platforms like that. God, I hated fixing the big square timbers on the bottom when they got broke.....

Wow just found your thread. Sorry to see it end in disaster. Glad you came out with your health.

If you ever move north your blind can at least become a ice shanty. Good luck on the C-body build. My wife would kill for a 72. She will just have to put up with my gen 2 I guess.

FM235 off 2005. We are on a managment property there owned by a guy named Terry Walls. You might see me at Peabody's on saturday mornings around 9.

I'm off 572 about 8 miles east from town. My friend down there owns Classic Paint and Body on 84 across from where 16 comes in from Priddy.

If you are wondering why there is 4' of rails on the front, I thought I would have to frame up the part that stuck over the truck cab. But, once I got it in the cradele there was little movement up top, and even less when I got the piece of 3/4"plywood bolted to the front.

That should make a pretty nice deer stand.

I think so too. The pop top is velcro'd and zippered so I can open it up to shoot. I think I will park it up on that hill next year, add a bit of a blind to the front, and put a couple chairs where the cab used to be. From that spot close shots are 150 yds and you can see more than a mile. My buddy sat up there and watched about 20 deer on Saturday morning. Would be a good place to sit and hunt with the kiddo's.
