77 C20 hauler to crawler

My tail has been dragging here lately, so this is all I accomplished today. For whatever reason.... I didn’t cut the steering box end of it down before I cut it to length. That would have given me a little more clearance on the engine crossmember, and made things look a little cleaner, but luckily it wasn’t necessary. I also have to find my other set of high misalignment spacers.

I’m still trying to decide what to do with the tie-rod. I’m set on keeping the tie-rod ends (I think) and the tube itself appears to be 1.25” 3/16 wall with 7/8” threads. So I think I can get away with modifying it rather than dumping a buncha money into building another one. But I don’t know... I have everything I need to do ram assist, but I will have to sleeve the tie-rod at the least. And blah blah blah.... I’m rambling.... lol

Not getting as much done as I hoped, but I brought our little komatsu mini home this weekend to pull the cab off my crawler, and get some other heavy stuff moved around. Also had a few basketball games to go to yesterday and today. So like I figured.... if I didn’t get this done before Christmas it was going to be a pain to find time to work on it. Good news is I have my steering all tacked in place, and I think it’s going to work! Went with a similar setup as what was on my crawler which uses a ram from northern tool, and a modified pump. I would love to have a nice PSC setup, but this worked awesome in the past once I found the right fluid. My only real concern is the tie rod. I’ll probably end up sleeving it and replace the clamps with jamb nuts before I get too crazy with the truck. As for now it’ll work just fine.
I was a little worried about where the end of the ram is, but it has plenty of clearance.

Spent most of the day fixing the alley behind my garage so it will stop draining toward my garage. The city bladehand made a mess of it a couple years ago. Can’t really bash the guy as there’s a power pole in the road, four gas meters, and a dumpster to work around within my 60’ of alley. On top of that my garage pad should have been built up another 4”. But anyway.... After I did what I could I got a few things finished up on this. First I had to see how the new headlights were going to look. Hard to see but I like em. I’ll paint the bezel black around the light. Should look pretty sweet.

Got the ram all mounted up and the welding finished up. I have a miller 211 with autoset, and I need to stop being lazy and actually set it manually because it’s never perfect, but I set it to the 3/8 today and it worked pretty good. Just some useless information for you guys. Lol

As you can see... I didn’t use a single 1” thick piece.

I think I’m going to make a couple hoses at work tomorrow. These are still good, but they might be a little short as they came off my crawler and the 2nd gen dodges have the steering box on the inside of the frame rail.

Welded up the draglink and threw some paint on it.

Going to try and go out to the garage after work a couple nights this week. We shall see! Depends of how much I get to watch KOH at work. Haha

Good progress aaron! Whose headlights are those?

Good progress!

I'm also interested in more info on the headlights.
Thanks guys! I’m still about 33 months behind as I planned on this taking about 3 months to put together. Lol but I’ve only gone over budget about $4000.00 so we are still doing good.
I got the lights off of eBay for around $65.00. They are actually a lot nicer than I thought they would be. Here’s the link for them.

Looking forward to getting back on this tomorrow! Man it must be KOH that gets me motivated, but whatever it is I hope I feel like this in the morning!

I've noticed there are days when things just come together and go great. Other days it's a struggle. Hoping for the first option for you this morning.
