Hey Dean, we did braces for Vanessa with zero coverage. It ran just over $8K, but they have several payment options to make it less painful. I chose 18 equal payments which was a lot easier than finding $8K lying around.
The thing is he wants to pay for it himself but that’s not right. Nobody wants me to sell the truck, I suggested it. We still have the 7de7. And I could yank the 454 and use the 350 out of it for the black truck... just thinking about it?

I'd say talk to the orthodontist first and investigate the options. they have a lot of experience making it affordable and reasonable for people to afford. Few dental plans cover any of it, so you're definitely not alone. The choice we went with was one of the more aggressive re-payment plans, they have plans that are a lot less per month, just take longer.
