77 The Black Truck "Ratbag"

fuel pump pushrods are the same, if its a roller cammed engine, I don't think it will have the fuel pump lobe on the camshaft.
Have you had the intake off?

OK Rene' I think it would then....Dean when you get the manifold off, you might be able to see the lobe on the front that drives the pump pushrod in front of the lifter lobes...

Been reading conflicting reports on if a Small Block fuel pump is the same as a Big Block one.

One Dude said that a BB one has a diferent length arm, some other guys say they are the same?
Other guys say that the BB one will pump more fuel,I don`t know?

When I put the 454 in my 78Short box im sure I used the one off the 350 that was in it...worked great! But I can`t say for sure if that is what I used or not. Over 20 years ago! :doah:

Pulled the intake off today can't see the lobe for a fuel pump on the cam.
Ran out of time with it today. I'll get my kid to help me check to see if the push rod moves when I turn the engine over.

Lots of grit in the valley from sitting... cleaned it out, but should I be to worried about it?

Grit in the lifter valley? Is it dirt/debris from taking the intake off?
If so that don't sound good Dean
I would be concerned about it getting into the pan on the cam crank rods pistons cylinders etc.
your leaving the heads alone right?
Can you vaccum it out with a shop vac?

Did the vacuumed thing... but still not happy. Gonna flush the valley with new oil and clean the pan. Yeah the heads are going to stay for now.

But what a difference in port size compared to the 781s.

I had a re-ringed 350 sitting in the old man's machine shed for a few years, and the dog ripped off the plastic engine bag. It had a bird nest in the lifter valley, I cleaned it out(ish) and it ran.

All nice and clean now... I think most of it came from carbon build up under the heads.
Rolled the motor over with the fuel pushrod in the block, moves 8mm-5/16ths or so. Does that seem right?

Seems right, I don't recall that lobe to be gigantic...

I'll get mine checked soon Dean when I finally get to the FI system on the Maiden. I will have to block off the fuel pump plate so I'll check ot then but like Rene says I think its less than the lift of a lifter lobe.
Clean it up best you can, start with a clean oil pan and pump and let it fly!

Yeah never really payed attention to any cams for that before.
Just happy it's got it... one less thing to worry about. :thumb:

I' ll take it off and clean it... I wanted to take it off for paint anyhow.
And it looks like Rene has put a nice silicon gasket on it! :waytogo:

Do you guys like electric or mechanical oil pressure? I could do either one.
Thought electric might be easier. I got one on the 454 now, the 305 has mechanical.

All those sexy re-usable silicone gaskets it has...I can't take any credit for. :haha:

They were on the engine when I bought it.

I like mechanical guages in general but if you use mech oil make sure your oil line has good ferrels and seats in the fittings so they dont leak
You should be able to get a line kit from an auto parts store

[/url]Rene was asking how the 454 was doing last night. That's it with Daves intake and some chrome VCs from my uncle in B.C. :thumb:

My mom was out from B.C. last week for the kids birthday. So we went and got some firewood for the CK5 party in September!
