77 The Black Truck "Ratbag"

Thanks guys!

Dave, I like it the way it looks too. Not to tall to be useable especially cause for what we use it for...don't have to jump up into it every time we get in and out.

Just need to get all the chrome trim back on and Renes 454 under the hood.

Because we NEED to have more power to drive around the farm! :haha:
do you have the trim?

The 14 bolt I put in the truck howls pretty good when it under load...worry about it or say F it and run it till I find a cheap replacement?

Neighbor has a 14ff in under a Van made into a trailer I could more than likely swap them if it has 373 gears.

is it definitely the gearset, not a bearing?

It never leaves the farm, run it til it goes bang. :waytogo:

Kinda what I`m thinking too Rene.

Not sure Dave. :dunno: It`s got some pretty bad backlash to it...but the brakes are good and the ebrake cables are like new so for what I paid for the truck I'm still happy. :thumb:

Just sounds annoying. oh well.

I set up my 14bff with new gears and ,007 bl
Well within the specified range and it seemed loose as well
so feeling a like a lot of backlash at the pinion might not actually be the case
I would leave the pinion alone (dont disrupt the crush sleeve)
Just pull the rear cover and check it out

You can pull the pinion out without disturbing anything. Sometimes the pinion support bearing goes out.

Is it a FF? For some reason I thought that was a SF Dean got? FF, for sure the pinion is easy to remove without messing anything up. SF, yeah, crush sleeve.

yep right, I forgot...the crush sleeve is in the pinion housing.

It's a ff.
Crazy busy right now with the farm and kids 4h.
I'll ask you guys more about it latter, for now it works we drive it every day. :thumb:

I've done a few pinion bearing swaps, using old crush sleeve. Not right but it worked, and still works fine IMO

I talked my neighbor out of putting a 4 speed in his 56 GMC :D...he bought a 454 with a flywheel and clutch/pressure plate on it, he was going to put it in his truck, but now he is going to keep it a auto.

So he is going to give me the flywheel clutch parts that I needed to swap in the 465 I got! :thumb:

Just need to take the 208 apart and see if it is OK. :dunno:

Also was talking to my Uncle in B.C. and he is donating me a old set of BB headers out of his old 72 Chev 4x4! :waytogo:

My parts needed list is getting shorter!

Hoping to get the 454/465/208 in before September!!!
