Interesting. I rebuilt mine with a normal rebuild kit. I didn't know there was an option for anything like that. Good info to know. I have noticed that mine slams into reverse pretty hard sometimes and I suspect it's from too high fluid pressure, not too low. I wonder if having the part in there that you're talking about could cause that.

I wonder if most of the problem is the TCI v/b....the Cheetah unit worked flawlessly, I just wanted to switch to the reverse shift pattern w/ engine braking which Cheetah don't offer, only TCI from what I've been able to find.

You may have gotten a faulty unit, or maybe there's a requirement for some other kind of part inside the trans to make it work properly. :dunno: Surely someone else makes a reverse manual valve body with engine braking for the TH400. I was thinking that the bands caused the engine braking anyway. I hate how when you try to upgrade to what you want, something always fails to work right. It's such a cruel, cruel world we live in.

The instructions that came with my tci reverse v/b with braking were pretty crappy. I even looked at their instructions online to see if any better and not really. There was one part about removing 1 of the 4 seals on something and wasn't 100% clear on which one exactly. I went with the one that I comprehended was the one they were talking about but something like that could have maybe been wrong and cause something????

I'm guessing that was probably one of the 4 ring seals on the center support. Probably the 2nd one from the front but I have never seen the instructions just basing it on dual feeding the direct clutch mod.

that sounds about right. Seems like it said 2nd one. Other than that is was pretty straight forward install. Would converter stall differences have any effect on the shift delay? I couldn't imagine much while under throttle.

Converter can affect the feel of the harshness of the shift, but it should not affect the timing of the shift at all.

same convertor as before, just changed cases and v/b. The 1-2 shift is firm just delayed and the mods that were required for the Cheetah I assume he left the same for the TCI unit.
Glen pace your self...its boring at times, I went into the build not knowing much, especially welding, I figured with the CK5 brotherhood to help guide me through it I could give it a shot. I especially like the parts of the CK5 build party in April 2011 and the crunch time to get it to Moab for BB11...its been a helluva ride....so far!

Haha what he said ^^^

Sorry, I'm no help. Autos are voodoo to me. Also just realized I wasn't subscribed to your build Dave, going to have to go back and read it all. :waytogo:

Good read...IMO and turned into one heck of a good friendship! :D

right on Dean!
I think it was one of the originals to make it in the driveway as well.

got the Maiden back home today...my trans guy said he must have spiked his guage on the intial pump spring adjustment and it made all the other readings low...He used his guage on a different trans they were working on and he thought it can't be right, so a different guage proved his was off.
We now have 200lbs line pressure which is on the upper side of the window TCI is looking for with their valve body...BUT the delay is still there...I brought it home and he said he will get in touch with TCI and see if they are willing to do something to get it right.
But for now She's back home and Im' happy...it still works fine, just the delay of about 1.5 seconds between 1-2 after the shift is made on the shifter...it is a good solid shift, just delayed.

So I have a new master cyl to put on it, and need to check a few other things out before the Bundyhill run 1st of OCT.

Bummer, you have more pressure than you need and the problem is still there.

At least you're still getting to enjoy it while you work through the issues.

Yeah, I have a feeling I'm going to eat this valve body...bought it last year about this time, and my procrastination didn't get it in the truck until July...
I may go back to the ole Cheetah unit if TCI don't want to work this out, if in fact it is a v/b problem.

Glad you got the Maiden Back!!!
Me too Dean, I felt like I just deserted it! It just didn't seem right that I couldn't check on it now and then...and man when I fired it up to take it for a test drive at the trans shop...it sounded so good, and familiar...I missed it!

At least you're still getting to enjoy it while you work through the issues.

Tis true...it is just an inconvenience right now...that I can live with if I need to.
