Kert, what are the plan dimensions for the tank that you have (where the filler plate is located)?

Great list!... get Adam drunk on that fireball and have him post on FB! :haha:
Maybe he can talk about astronauts and be the adst mngr!!

That would keep us laughing for a bit! :thumb:

Only thing I have drawn up so far is a rough out of the tank floor so I could figure up the tank spider.

Don't plan on cutting anything till Saturday, a.m.

We can get together on the phone either Friday or Saturday and go over the details once again. Maybe do some emailin' back and forth.

Yep a few mounting details, and filler plate location to work out yet...PM on the way!

In this pic, run a fuel tank mounting rail (1x2) parallel to the tank sides and weld on to the X on the front and back body crossmembers, then one across the front and back of the tank....
The fuel filler plate maybe moved to the pass rear 6" from the rear wall and 6" from the pass side wall.

Dave I could come we'd or Thursday morning. I thought you had to work late thurs though

nope Wed night is it for me, plan on leaving thurs AM by 10 at the latest.

here is a couple pics of the tank to rear crossmember (pic 1....the tailpan cross member) Pic 2 shows the drop between top of tank and the mid mount body crossmember...about 2 in drop to top of tank for a 1x2 rail. There is about 3" between the front of the tank and the body crossmember.

I typed that stupidly lol. I meant... " I can come wed night or thurs AM, I thought you had to work late WED night though..." my bad lol

Can we raise the tank at all?

What prevents it from going slightly further forward?

If you want to come down wed night I can be home from work about 9pm.

it can go forward an inch or so, any further and it risks getting close to the axle under full stuff...I can check closer tomorrow. It can go up maybe an inch and still have enough room for filler neck and fittings

Pass side.. about 3" clearance between the tank and chassis frame...(had to make room for the fuel pump mounted inside the skid plate for protection)

Drivers side has about 1/2 inch clearance at the front upper corner and about an inch on the rest of the frame to tank...

I can't come to much further forward..see those body mount brackets:

I'll get a bunch more reference pics tonight when I get home, and do some measuring and look for some other options....wondering now if making a supporting framework for the tank, and some 10 gauge straps to go underneath the tank would be the way to go?

a few more pics of whats we got to work with....notice those two wide open frame rails....weld a mount to those to mount the tank to?

measurements from skid to bottom of floor is about 15"...

From the pictures, the best and cleanest option will be to move the fuel pump forward out of the tanks area. Slide the tank over and center it up between the frame rails. Weld the mounts to the sides of the frame and on the tank.

That could prolly work Dave.

I've gotta go to the college wed after work to finish some drawings that will be due Thursday, as I have a test Tuesday and won't have enough time to finish after.

But I could prolly be done by 6 or so, head home, clean up and leave.

That way I don't have to deal with morning traffic in Grand Rapids etc and if anything happens to my car etc, I could have it figured out instead of being late in the am.

Oh and pm me ur addy again. I forgot all the back road names lol.

that; sounds good Adam, show up somewhere between 9:30 and mid...

PM on the way!

tacked in a mounting frame for the gas tank....the opening is 1/2" to 3/4" larger than the 24" od dimensions of the tank....the pass side has a 1/2" gap between the tank and the mounting 1x2 (.080 wall) rail, the drivers side has about 3/16" gap. about 3/16" gap between the front and rear rails 1x1 angle (.125) as well....KERT what is the thickness of the mounting flanges? I will space the rails that thickness down in the body mounting crossmembers to provide support for the floor when the tank is installed w/ the flanges up, the floor will sit flat on the body crossmembers and the top of the tank support flanges as well.

Tell Ned, to go find a goat.

when my dad came out to help last friday we were talking about a bunch of stuff, and the subject came up about my missing flag...told him someone stole it, perhaps the night my brothers van got broken into, they cut the rope and stole the flag and rope....today I get this package laying on my doorstep when I get home from work:
gotta love my Pop!
