I cant find my box of pinion shims.
I didnt look real hard either.
Its cold in the garage, thats probably where the shims are.
I cleaned the outer axle bearings and cleaned mating surfaces.
I made a beef pot roast.
It was good.
I had Neers.

I didn't eat cookies. Ate the last of them yesterday.
I did my vacation laundry.
I did financial things.
I took a nap.
I bleached my water lines.
I got my tires and rims for the Duramax put in the truck to take to the powdercoaters Monday.
My neighbor made me drink Neers whilst we bullshitted in the heated barn.

see list above

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

An old friend came in from outta town
I ran outta gas
I had a flat tire
I lost my keys
I didnt have enough money for cabfare
There was a flood
Someone stole my car
There was an earthquake

it wasnt my fault, I swear to God.......

Cant find my pinion shims, so Ill reuse the one that came out and hope its right.
Spent a few hours dis-assembling the spindles, cleaning things up, bearings felt good, so packed a little grease in them and will reuse. The drivers side spindle is the one that got chewed up in Moab @BB11...we field fixed it, and I checked it again a couple years ago, and this time I cleaned it up a bit more. The inside of the spindle tube took a beating, but its still .260 thick, and everywhere else is about .300-.310, but it is a bit thin at the keyway....Its got several hundred miles on it since Moab, so I think it’ll be good. Got the spindles and hubs assembled, and the new straddle bearing put in, ring and pinion pit in, just need to get the gear pattern set up again.
First pic is pass side spindle...drivers side is further down.

if i do grease on hub bearings its a tiny coat just till the oil gets to them . but you can cheet and tip the axle/ rig with a floor jack for 20-30 min each side to fill the hubs with gear oil .

that spindle is yummy :surepal: if me i would be looking for another housing or even newer axle with factory disc brake and ebrake .

The spindle was worse than I thought, there is a crack where the keyway is. Runs to where the keyway gets shallower.
Ground a groove in the crack from the inside of the tube, and welded it up, blowing through in a couple spots, so I built it up, and then used a file to clean up the keyway. Kept the two threaded nuts on while welding to hold the shape, it also helped clean up the threads when done welding.
