I know you thought about it already, but out of curiosity.. with the time constraint, and having to put the body back on as is, are you guys gonna leave it removable for future blasting, whatever, when you do the upcoming tube work, etc?

Yes, we will be using Kert's cage tie-ins, slightly custom made for a boxed frame:

And the cage flanges for the engine cage

After thinking about this more, it will probably work out better to do the underside after all the cutting for miniboat siding/sliders/and cage construction is done, wheelwell mods too; then I can clean it all up at once and shoot the whole underside without having to rework anything. It will also allow me to touch up areas of the frame that required welding during the fabbing of those things.

Can anyone tell me if your stock body mount equipped K5 has the substructure level with the frame rail or slightly angled toward the front or back. (the spotted rust looking 2x4 section)

I will look at my body mounts on my 89 tomorrow Dave, but its an 89 but I think the overall orientation is the same

Is that 2x4 a box or 'Z' channel? Can you take more pictures of it?
I plan to replace my rocker 'boxes' to something from a later model and have it and the roll cage add back the structure integrity.

I just want to make sure I end up with a 2" body lift over factory dimensions....Kert is making my Gauntlet for a 2" body lift. I really just need the distance between the frame rails and the body mounting crossmember that is along the rear and runs side to side under the floor.

I just looked at my 1987 Jimmy. Mine runs parallel to the bottom of the frame.

Thanks Majik...mine should be pretty close I think when I get all the mounts in place in the right order.

Its a box JD maybe 14 ga. thickness. I'll take a couple pics tonight when I get home from work and post em up.

I was wrong JD....its more like C channel

Thanks,
Hmm, it appears that you are missing the 'inner' rocker panal. I can't recall from looking at other late model blazers having that part missing.
I need to look at other late blazers to find out for sure.

Maybe JD, This truck has been hacked up before I got it, so I don't know what is stock on it.
We will be putting sliders and miniboat sides on it, so more of that will go away too.

bout as ready as I'm gonna get.
The body is mounted in 6 of the 8 points, still need to mount the middle set.
But its on and squared up pretty good.
I cut a hole in the floor to allow access to the rear brake inline valve.
I ended up lifting the body 2", and that has cleared pretty much the gas tank repositioning, that I did. It is moved up 3" and forward 2", and I had to cut a little corner off some underbody metal to clear my gas tank mounts.
Had to adjust one of the muffler heat shields to clear the brake line....looks like its the plan is coming together.
I already know I will take the body back off though....it just aint right under there.
So picking up Eric tomorrow in Chicago, and we're going to run around and check out a few things, then hit a deep dish Chicago pizza (Petes') then head home late evening.
Build week begins on Wednesday.

nice to see the body back on man.lookin good dude.ill be watching for tomorrows progress.after a full days work with help should get a few things accomplished.

All I have to say is I'm jealous this isn't in my neck of the woods. A CK5 build meet/greet sounds like a blast! You guys better post lots of pics of all the progress you make this week! :)

X2!!! especially one the pics.

Yup can't wait. Still on vacation, I get back tomorrow night. I don't think I have time to run and get my other tires mounted to roast off. I may grab my rollers that I have on my k20. Dave send me a message with what you need me to bring tool wise.

We started by getting the IronMaiden into the shop...it rained all day, and at least the shop was warm and dry. We started fitting the S&W cage B hoop behind the seats, some trimming to fit it where we wanted it, and made a couple form fitted plates to the floor. Then fit the upper halo in place. They are tacked in place and we are trying to figure the best way to mount the A pillars now. We will probably make some of our own as the S&W pieces are not where we want them.

Eric noticed this little jewel sitting in the dash.
Did I say something about a Build and Greet giveaway????

Okay, I totally forget, what kind of seats are those?

Stupid Duty take outs...$40each
Got em in Indiana from a Craigslist add. They are comfy too!

Hrmmmm...soooo many options.

Already plated the floor and drilled for the factory type mounts. Have to see what the future holds though.
